oil filter housing
Hi, recently bought a subaru impreza 2000 , year 1999.
After checking the dipstick I found I couldnt get an accurate reading, so thought I had better top up with a little oil, the next time I went out in the car and finished my journey there was so much smoke it was unbelievable.
I checked the underside of the car and there was oil everwhere, I took it to a garage and found that the leak appears to b coming from a pipe around the oil filter, the pipe in question is cut off and blanked, there are two of these.
Is there a reason that these pipes should be cut off and blanked, someone did mention that it might be dry sumped. Is there a way to tell? All I know is the car was being prepped to be a racing car, which has been tuned up to 293hp.
Any information would be much appreciated and extremely helpful

Can you get a picture off the affected part? Seems a bit odd to me that an oil modine/cooler fail and fill the water side with oil....
I run my car without the modine but I have an external oil cooler

Hopefully this worked
The second picture Is a top down view and this 1 seems the main 1 to be spraying oil out
The first pic there is a pipe behind the filter you can just see, cut and blanked

From what I can tell at the moment, considering the engine is hot at the moment, it seems like there is a pipe connecting the water pump to the oil cooler

In the first pic you posted up, it looks like the oil filter is not in contact with the modine face and being held away from the face by a clip or something which might explain the oil being chucked out ( or it might just be the angle of the photo making it look like it's not in contact ).

Cool, my mechanic thought it was the oil cooler and the pipes might of been cut and blanked because there was a possible leak, I think when I topped up the oil I over filled and the pressure blew that 1 blank by the filter. Gotta get these bigger jobs done, might aswell do them at the same time as cambelt. Then start with the external upgrades. Like I said it might cost but I god damn love this car.
Anyway thanks for your help and quick responses people
