Default Intermittent scraping noise

Hi just lately I've been getting a strange metal scraping noise that's stops and starts. It sounds like it's coming from the rear passenger side. It does this at any speed in a straight line. Some days it disappears completely and if a good run on motorway etc it goes away for days. I've searched on here and couldn't find anything. Someone else told me to remove the rear brake dust guards as they get rusty and and could be touching? My car is 2004 blob wrx. Thanks for any help.

Likely the handbrake mechanism as the handbrake uses a small drum in the centre of the disk and not used when you press the foot brake.

Try pulling handbrake on and off a few times (I wouldn't do this at motorway speeds though...)

i had a very similar problem with my 03 blob eye. however it used to do it more on a low speed or when setting off, its was from the rear passenger side. Got the brake pads changed and cleaned the discs, sprayed quite a lot of brake disc cleaner all around the discs and callipers, and now touchwood no more of that noise. Its been about 2 weeks haven't heard it now and car is in constant use. Hoping that sorted it.
