Now I know where they are & what they do but are they just connected to a power supply via the ignition or is there something in between?

From: Leeds - It was 562.4bhp@28psi on Optimax, How much closer to 600 with race fuel and a bigger turbo?
Basically they will be run from the ecu... there may be some sort of Ignition module in between... but basically they will be getting a pulse of 12v which will come from the ecu, what it goes via is anyones guess... if you really want to know then have a look at a wiring diagram...
why do you ask?

It will have a solid ign +12v feed, and i think two - ve switching wires to trigger the spark ( wasted spark system ). The ign amplifier is usually mounted on the drivers side strut tower, along with the wastegate solenoind and MAP sensor etc. Obviously the triger is controlled via the ecu. I will probably sound rude, but you are wanting to play with this etc, and you cant even find the alternator?? I think you should be very very very careful what you tamper with....

I was half asleep guys & I meant to ask "where's the distributor?" but have recently found out that a scooby doesn't have one
I'm not a complete muppet. Well maybe for asking the wrong question & continuing as if i'd asked the one I was meant to ask

The Ignition Module 'IS NOT' on the Chassis leg, as I know what David means but it's not that.
The Ignition module as mentioned above is behind the bracket where the Boost Control Solenoid is mounted on the strut.
