Default Rear diff

HI guys and girls, I would like to know if anyone knows why I'm getting a bad humming noise from the rear of my car? When I get up to 70 it's very noticeable. I put it into a garage and asked them to check the rear wheel bearings as I've had that problem before with other cars. They rang me back and said it was my rear diff humming. So I just spent 8 hours on my back yesterday changing my rear diff and rear diff bushes and my car still hums which is pretty frustrating. It's a uk car so was wondering if anyone has any ideas before I start replacing all the other bushes and wheel bearings. All help appreciated, cheers Andy T

Pretty sure it's not tire noise. When they had it in the garage. They got it up to 70 on the ramp and the mechanic reckoned that it was the diff that was whining. I was wondering if the prop shaft bearings ever fail. Or if it's the gearbox that's whining and the sounds travelling down the prop. Anyone else had similar problems?

Is it definately from the rear, and not from underneath the gearstick area? Drop gears and centre diff bearings are moderately common to go and can make a noise at higher road speeds. Drop shaft bearings may transmit enough noise down the propshaft to make it sound like its from the rear.

Also check all your tire pressures are matched as this can affect the effective circumference and put load on diffs that might only show at speed.

I had some cheap rear pads in that were a poor fit and when I changed them my noise disappeared don't know if old fitter didn't grease then up or something causing a noise

Did you find out what this was as I have a high pitched hum up to 50 mph. Worried about my diff.
