If my car had a full service 1000 miles ago what would be tell tale signs..
Hi all,
Bought an 06 Hawkeye STi two weeks ago and I'm just curious. Service book says it had full service approx 1000 miles ago but by looking at the air filter I would say that wasn't changed for a long time, with the underside being very dirty. I haven't even looked at spark plugs, what should they look like after 1k? And could anyone give me tips for cambelt inspecting?
And one more, in the coolant tank the liquid looks a bit moldy/gunky and there is stains in the tank that are similar to mold.. Am I better off replacing the fluid?
Am I better off getting a full service done regardless... I'm based in Worcester so if anyone can recommend me a decent garage nearby that would be great.
Apologies for newb questions, my first STi and I don't want it going bad!
Cheers

Hi, try and work out what they defined as a "full service".
As that can mean anything. But at the very least look at the oil filter, it should still look fairly clean (unless there is a oil leak) and should have no rust on it yet.
What you should refer it to as the 10,000 miles/1yr service, 20,000mile/2yr, 30,000mile/3yr etc. Or as Subaru call it "service A" service B, C, D, and E.
For example:
A 10K/1yr "full" service is usually a inspection (brakes, tyres, fluid levels, suspension condition etc.) and a oil+oil filter change.
A 30K/3yr service in contrast usually includes over £100+labour worth of extra fluid changes (gear and diff oils etc).
A 60k/6yr service will (should) include spark plugs. IIRC Cambelt is also 60K/6yrs on a 2007 newage.
Brake fluid is usually a 2yr job and done independant of the main service as its not mileage dependant....that can be easily tested with a £15 tester from Amazon.
So really if its just the 1yr/10K service the air filter won't have been changed, nor the coolant. This is why a "FSH" service book doesn't mean much to me...printed invoices from a VAT registered company of work carried out showing the parts used is much more important than a little booklet full of rubber stamps (or hand written receipts).
