Default Sports cat or decat

Will the sports cat from a WR1 fit a 2003 wrx?

There are two cats in the standard exhaust, I've read a few places saying the car will pass its mot with only one? I'm not convinced but if so,does it matter which one is retained?

I don't want to change the back box for a dustbin and I dont want to spend loads, but freeing up so horses that are already there cant be a bad thing

If it's any help, I have a sports cat in my downpipe and second cat delete. Mines 100cell and has to be hot to pass emissions apparently by the previous owners words. It has passed though... I have a h&s sports cat downpipe. My cars a 2004 wrx.

Do you know a "friendly" MOT station?

or

Are you able to remove,re-fit it for each MOT?

also freeing those ponies, I think, you may need a new map(not sure)

Yeah,if de-cating downpipe, you will need a remap. So probs not best if you don't want to spend to much.
You will be ok deleting the other, but as previously mentioned its probably best running it through MOT with a hot system.

3 cats, jesus! i thought two was bad.

one in the up pipe, and two under the car?

I can swap it back and forth, its only a couple of bolts at either end, so not a big job.

Surely the ecu will adjust small amounts, and the lower restriction on the exhaust will let the car run more easily without a remap? a remap would just make sure your getting the most?

so.....use a sports cat and delete the other with,

?

If you buy a sports cat it generally goes from the turbo to the centre section of the exhaust deleting the second cat. So less joints more flow etc.

Your car will have a prodrive certificate and a shiny sticker saying the power increase in bhp. If you don't have this it's probably best to assume it hasn't.

Its just a case of what are you trying to gain and how much money do you want to spend.
Let us know a little more about it & you'll get some good guidance..

Just fitting a sports cat etc will not get good results...
Pound for hp, the best results are:
1. delete the small scrubber cat and replace pipe (easy job, £40)
2. S/Hand deresonated CAT back system (could be as cheap as £80 if you are not too fussy)
3. Remap (o/source via RaceDynamix)

All the above will leave you totally MOT friendly.

Do items 1&2, gain maybe 5-10 hp.
Add item 3 & you should be from 225 to around the 270...(around £470)

Yes you could fit a sports CAT, but it'll cost you £100 plus the pigging around to fit...to gain another 5????

I wana spend as little as possible, usual story. I dont want 500bhp or anything crazy, just a little more, and if i can improve the mpg as well then that cant b bad?

I'm getting more and more tempted with the open source remap.

Car has a back box, need to get underneath the car and have a look if its just that or anything else.

Small scrubber cat? is that with the pipe (pic)above?

Mpg after a remap will be slightly improved ( it's what you tell the mrs.)until you drive it harder( don't tell her that bit).

What power are you hoping for?
As mapping for mpg won't really work out.
