Default Intercooler water spray

Just want to check if UK tap water is ok to top this up, or if something more specific is required (deionised etc)?

I have V7 JDM 'bugeye' STI, and live in a hard water area.

Cheers!

It's only used to cool your intercooler externally so tap water will be fine. I usually add a small amount of screen wash just so the alochol/chemicals will prevent mould growing in the tank. If you have an auto mode I recommend wiring a LED(fitted in view of the driver) in parallel to the pump motor and you'll get to see how often or not it's fired! You loose some water when you brake hard as it's forced down the pipe without the pump! Enjoy!

@IanK Spec C, I do have auto mode, that's a good idea with the LED. Out of interest roughly how frequently do you find it fires on the average Sunday afternoon B Road blast.

Yeah that's what I've used in mine.

The auto mode is ECU controlled and there are so many variables it will look at boost, inlet temp etc so it's nigh on impossible to say how often it will work.

as said by myblackwrx, it's not a straight forward algorithm. You notice it more when you've been sat in traffic and the intercooler has become an interwarmer! I've also got a temperature sensor fitted after the intercooler in the hose to the thottle body. This gives a better indication of inlet temps.

Only problem with it is that sometimes the nozzle can get calcified and blocked, Press your manual switch to see if it works still, You`d be suprised how many are blocked

Hi, Just found some more info for the auto spray on my 2007 JDM spec C. The algorithm includes coolant temp (must be above 80 degrees C), rpm (must be above 4000 rpm), Boost pressure (must be above 0.14 bar) air temp (must be above 20 degrees C), Vehicle speed.

Not sure how accurate those setpoints are?
