Red face

I have an Sti Type, which is making a squeeling noise from the front N/S wheel. I jacked the car up last night - and ther seems to be an awaful lot of play in the wheel. Does this mean that the bearings need replacing?

If so, are they expensive - any reccomendation would be very welcome.

Also, i seem to have a problem with the brakes, the car certainly stops, however, the pedal travel varies each time you apply pressure, -it could be right at the top or quite far down.

I thouhgt there may be an air lock in the system somewhere, but have jsut had the brakes bled and it has not made any difference - is this normal??

If anyone has any suggesstions, please could you email me on pb@optimumconuslting.uk.com or call me on 07971 289 581.

Many thanks

if there is play on your fron wheel then your bearing is probably away....£60 for a wheelbearing(japan) on the back of a type-r, the squeaking could also be a stone in the caliper, take it off and clean it mate
don't know about the brake pedal

get the brakes checked out... could be a knackered master cylinder..

No point messing with them otherwise youll need more than a wheel bearing.

i had to have front drivers side wheel bearings changed on my type-r a couple of months ago. ScoobySport did a grand job for me. Parts were around £140 (ish), and labour was the same(ish). Labour should have been a lot cheaper but they had a mission trying to get the old bearings out....or something along that line....

When the bearing has gone, the play in the wheel is also play on the disc. As the disc waves around, it presses the pistons back into the caliper, de-flooding them.

When you next press the brake pedal, you have to re-flood the pistons before the pads can contact the disc. This is the extra and random brake pedal feel.

If there is a LOT of travel, you may also need a new stub axle.
