Default boost controller advice needed

Hi
I was wondering what you guys would suggest for this:

I have a wrx v limited but it suffers from a little turbo lag (it doesn't kick in until roughly 4k). I know on the sti you can adjust when the boost kicks in. I am looking at doing something similar to this.

So i was thinking about fitting a digital boost controller to allow me to run high and low boost. I rarely drive into the turbo anyway but hey. What would you guys recommend?

any advice appreciated

Firstly, I have a surplus to requirements Blitz Dual SBC controller that might do you. I used it in my T2000 until I got ESL fitted.

Secondly, is that a standard turbo?? Seems very high RPM for just starting to boost. My TD04 is well on full boost by then.

I have to say that playing with the boost pressure probably isn't the best thing to do if you go too far with it. If it's a turbo response issue, you might want to have a look at the vacuum hoses and boost solenoid.

hmm interesting no its not standard its a td05. I am looking into changing the solenoid. but I would also like to have some control that a digital boost controller would offer.

thanks

I'd expect a TD05 would be on full boost by that time too. Something not quite right there!

I did like using my controller but now I have full control using the ECU I don't need it. If I was you I'd be looking at the solenoid, waste gate actuator and pipework just to rule them out really. I found loads of cracks/leaks on my vacuum pipes.

Thanks I was planning on doing this anyway. Maybe I am over exaggerating with the rpm it is on boost at 4k rpm but if I put my foot down there is a blank spot if that makes sense. It was remapped before I bought it so I doubt that would be the problem.

Thanks jay I appreciate the advice. I rarely put my foot down anyway but I would just like it to be abit more responsive when I do so.

I am also going to take the turbo off and check all the bearing as soon as I get abit of free time.

You mention it was mapped before, do you know what ECU you have?

Also, what year and model of car have you got? I was told mine was remapped too but instead it had a superchips fuel cut defender and a crappy bleed valve. Probably the reason the engine blew up before I got it.

its a blob, 2003 v limited. I am not certain what map it has as I am at work at the moment and all my paperwork is at home but I do have a dyno printout.

Cool! In that case I'd leave well alone or else have it checked/mapped again. That way you know it's been done and done properly. Taking someone's word for it is no good it seems!

I had this problem when I fitted a td05 it used to boost around 4000rpm, I think you need a remap, my engine ran very rich till it was mapped.

what map did you go for? mines remapped already but im not sure if it was done before the turbo was fitted. I assume it was done after as the dyno show 360bhp. Maybe it isn't a very good map

no idea with the map I just gave to them and let them work there magic. after the map it was boosting around the 2500-3000rpm with 326bhp at 1bar of boost. 360bhp seems a bit much for a td05, assuming it's a 16g. personally I would get it on a dyno and have it checked.
