Default HELP engine overheating

Hey everyone

Just picked up my 06 impress wrx sti, & when driving it after 20miles the temperature gauge goes up to hot, can anyone tell me what this could be as the previous owner has told me it never did this with him but has happen to me after 20miles, they is green fluid leaking out which I guess is coolant, it's either the radiator or a pipe to it?

Any car I buy the first thing I do is check it's cold and if not ask why.

Next thing would be to check the fluids,If there low there is a reason why and at this stage would possibly walk away.

then I would start it up and have a good listen and take it for a long drive then leave it idle for a while, chances are if it's going to over heat it will do it while idling and watch for the fans kicking in.

obviously while driving listen for any funny noises and also check your rear view for any smoke, when braking feel for any pulling or worn pads as any of this will cost you.

Believe it or not alot of people over look tyres which are fooking expensive.

make sure all lights come on and go out.

And make sure you check all the paper work before you hand over any money to make sure the history is all in order and do a hpi check.

Alot of this is not subaru specific but should be done with any car and obviously the exterior.

If need be get a inspection done before you buy, Im not a qualified mechanic but have messed with cars since a kid and these basics have served me well
