OK, short answer last night, had a few, apologies.

Don't use a sandwich plate. The Subaru oil pressure SWITCH is placed where it is to give the most accurate readings. Your new sender wants to go there.

Now some will screw into the original hole and actually fit in the fairly restricted space. That's what I did, and my original o/p switch sits on a shelf in the garage.

But some senders are physically too big to fit, despite having the correct threads etc.
if that is the case, use one of these: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/IMPREZA-WR...item1c3e1b7e5e
which allows the sender to fit remotely, and can also take the OE switch if you really want both.

If fitting an oil TEMPERATURE sender, it goes in the tappings above cylinder No. 3, and needs an adaptor like this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ENGINE-OIL...item1e7acbbc7e

or both here: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Oil-Temp-O...item566366ae2b

You can get lower prices on ebay, those were the first three I found
