Well if anyone is familiar with Colin's 106 and ATSpeed's work in Rayleigh then it will come as a big surprise the infamous 106 GTI is up for sale. Amazing car

Time has come to sell my 106 turbo. I have owned the car since 2005, and have seen it develop from a 100% standard car to where it is now, over a 9 year project costing in excess of over £40,000, not to mention thousands of hours. This is a well known car in the french tuning scene, magazine featured, magazine technical article featured, and also featured on the Omex technolgies website. Truly a very fast car, 11.5 second 1/4 mile, and lap times of donington circuit (on road legal tyres) rivaling that of a British Touring Car.

Originally turbocharged in 2006 to 337bhp, in 2009 the car had a bare shell rebuild where most of the chassis work took place, roll cage, interior and interior wiring + fuel system, and also further engine developments pushing to over 400bhp.

In 2011/2012 the car evolved further, adding full aviation brake lines with brake bias, satchshift, and also upgrading the engine and engine bay wiring looms to full race spec, utilising silver plated copper wire, raychem heatshrink and fully sealed joints. Full chassis alignment and suspension reinforcing, and a fully refurbished competition rear beam built by spoox motorsport. Front brakes were also improved by way of AP racing curved vane discs on BG floating bells + brake ducting. Various changed were also made to the engine spec, turbocharger, exhaust, as well as a very special intercooler, boosting performance to 432bhp.

The engine is at full race spec, offering a huge wide powerband making good usable power past 8500rpm. Running fully sequential injection and hours of time and development on the rolling road, this engine, driven sensibly, was able to drive from nurburgring to essex on a single tank of fuel. Coupled to a special choice of gear ratios, the performance is truly breathtaking.

But could you bring yourself to part with that much money for a R plate 106? I couldn't regardless of what was done I'm afraid, some people may view it different but that's an awful lot of money for a 106, even if it is a pocket rocket!

I guess it depends what you're looking for. If you want a small hatch with over 400bhp and a mod list as long as that for track days then im guessing you're not going to be able to buy a standard car and get those results for that sort of money doing it yourself.

Looks fun I bet it eats gearboxes lol.... £16k is just the tip of the iceberg in terms of maintenance I imagine and then you have to find a dedicated garage to support you to keeping it going
