Default Clutch issue?

Hi,

As i was driving today, i have noticed that when i hit biting point on the clutch (coming off the clutch down shifting or upshifting) It kinda feels like its clicking or pushing itself into place, rather than being more smooth.

not sure when the last clutch change wasor if it still has the original clutch on there.

Can anyone help at all or anyone had this problem before?

As i say it feels like it was clicking itself after biting point, into place, didn't feel right at all.

Also to mention that when i started the car after work, there was a high pitched either air sound / screechy sound which lasted about 5 seconds.

Clutch feels fine at the moment, just a little worried that it may be on it's way out!

Sometimes a small pedal adjustment is all that's needed. While you are doing it also check that the bolt hole in the pedal pivot hasn't worn oval as this can also cause the same problem.

I'll check this Richard, but apart from electricals, when it comes to things like that I am not so good. I'll probably have to take it to a garage.

Well it grabs gears fine, no problem at all getting it into the gears, it's just that feeling when it's hitting biting point, it feels like it's pushing itself into place afterwards.

also had some terrible screechy sound this morning when starting the car up which wasn't fun.

Car is an 05 Impreza STI type uk.

Could be one of the belts - I had this, turns out the powersteering belt was shot - £100 quid later and the Woodford main dealer had changed the ancillary belts and the screeching had gone.

Lots of threads about this:

Yeah been out on lunchtime and annoyed the other businesses by starting her up. Seems like one of the belts at the front (not sure what they're called, know one of them is the alternator belt) has some play and is squeaking. one of them is tight and the other seems to have a bit more play, i'm guessing it's just a case of tightening the one that has play, and see whether this still has squeak or is it worth just replacing it?

Still haven't had time to check the clutch properly. Was still doing it on the drive this morning.

If you're going to take it somewhere Jack, take it to Paul @extreme scoobies. Cannot recommend him enough, would never take my car anywhere else!

Well just an update, and sorry I haven't text you yet mate, As i've been very worried about the car.

I've taken the car to my friend who is a mechanic and owned a few of these before.

Seems like the cambelt tensioners are on their way out, (says he can hear this from the noise it's making and where it's located).

Also the clutch bearing is not a happy bunny. So the clutch on it's way out too. Not driving the car if there is issues with the cambelt so gonna have to sort something out. There goes all the money!! :-(
