Default Looks like its finally happened :(

Feking 2.5 engines!

Went out for an extremely spirited drive lastnight. Threw a cylinder 4 misfire at me. Calmed and cooled down for a bit. CEL was flashing on idle, hunting about until an enevitable stall. Limping about, and a lost count of stalls finally home at 2am.

This morning, reset code, checked fluids, went for a slow drive around romford. Shes down on power on WOT, Every set of lights, CEL flashing again (no noticable misfiring though). Back home, swapped coilpack from cylinder 2. Little drive again, same fault

Back home again, cup of tea and few biscuits to let her cool down enough to get hands into the bay. Swapped plug from cylinder 2, out for a little drive. Same Feking fault keeps flashing its stupid smiley face at me!

Unplugging MAF stalls the car so ive ruled that out. No boost leaks either.

Smoke from oil filler neck when idling

Really dont fancy paying a garage to do a leakdown test to be told what i dont want to hear.

Looks like im out for a few meets now or for good.

Check coolant level and oil level/condition.
Also check plug condition.

That's how my drove when the coilpack fell off.... might be worth checking to see if one of your packs has given up.

Mine was throwing two cylinders codes too - but only one pack had a problem.

Hi mate,

HG's were replaced last june/july along with major service.

Coolant level fine,

Oil replaced 500 miles ago and is solid black now. Level has dropped a smidge too, amount unknown, havent topped up yet.

Trying to stay away from the scaremongering threads and other reads throughout the net. But everything regarding these symptoms on cyl 4 leads to rings

Might be worth a call to XtremeScoobies in Chelmsford? Or if you're sure it's gone then start planning the full forged engine and keep it off the road until you're ready to go straight to 400bhp+?

Whatever happens mate I'm sure you will be back in the fold.

Thanks for the advice guys.

Gonna have to get a day off work and book it in for the post mortem.

Common sense tells me to cut my losses.

My brain tells me... She'll be back.

I thought you were looking to rebuild this year anyway?

Honestly though mate, with how much extreme charged you to go the HG, I would have rebuilt then.

Stick it on the drive, save some pennies and start doing some research about which dirty great big turbo you want!

No question or shadow of doubt that she will be back. I don't know why but I just liked her more than other hawks and she has too much character to bin, plus I want to chase her through the Dartford tunnel again

No mate, project is here, apparently I'm not allowed to have two scoobies and the project requires a bit of funding

Always fancied a type r!

Trouble is I just can't walk away from the hawk. If I could I'd be buried at sea in it lol.

How inconsiderate of someone to tell you your not allowed 2 scoobies!

Looking forward to see the project get underway matt.

Decision is made (was made a while back anyway) forging is on the cards. Going to speak to a few builders to discuss options over the next few weeks. Funds are holding me back at a build and mapping for this year. so ill get that out of the way then look at the ancillaries to get me close to the 400 barrier. Torque is going to be immense at that level

DantheMan is officially lurking in the shadows for a while

Dan, talk to Alyn at AS Performance about fitting a closed deck insert into your 2.5 block. Then it will be 600bhp capable.
