Well I went in for some Winter tyres . . . . .
. . . . . like these beauties
And they went & gave the job to a spotty faced kid of an apprentice
Who was obviously working unsupervised
Because when I went back to pay for the tyres
He had stuck this on top of them
It pains me to say this but after many, & I mean many, happy years of Scooby ownership & lots of great memories & many great friends made along the way it is time for the next chapter in my life to open.
And the vehicle I need to do the next 18 months to 2 years of ducking & diving is "Larry" the Land Rover. A very tidy low mileage (58k) 2001 limited edition X-Tech TD5 with FSH, TC & ABS.
Bomb proof depreciation combined with being a practical load lugger & with a hint of AWD for some fun. I could have gone the Caddy or Connect route but when I come to sell I want a quick sale & didn't want to lose a shed load of money just trying to shift it. Land Rovers seem to hold their value & the sites I have been watching have had a steady turnover of sales. The last LR I had was about 20 years ago, an old petrol Series IIA, which bounced around on leaf springs belching smoke & leaving a trail of oil behind it.
The Stealth Wagon has gone locally to a good home & has joined a stable of some choice cars owned by an enthusiast who I know will look after it the same way I did. I was offered well over the going rate for an 03 WRX on 57k with mods & didn't have to suffer all the hassle of phone calls, time wasters, tyre kickers & test pilots.
A few more pics of Larry for all the Oil Burner Essex Scoobyless Crew to drool over. Can't you just smell that Derv :-
And because "Once a tart always a tart" the modding has started already so all is not lost.
345mm of Italian leather loveliness
And Jess liked the Wolfy spare wheel cover - grr grr. Stop growling Jess

Cheers mate. Just finalised everything today Stu & the new owner came round to pick up the Stealth Wagon this afternoon.
When he arrived he & his wife went straight over to look at "Larry". He had owned a 90 before himself & was quite impressed with what he saw.
It was sad to hear the burble going off in the distance though & the change of revs at each mini roundabout as he headed for the bypass.
Thanks for all your help with stuff.

Nice Choice Mark. The defenders do hold their value better than disco's (never was sure why though tbh?).
I had an 88 series IIa until beginning of last year .... Was a 1962 and as you said, they do bounce about on springs.
I personally like 'Japanese Reliability' and have had Mitsubishi's for the last 8-9 years, currently have a Shogun 3.2 Did 7 seater.

Mark, that is in lovely condition for an 11 year old car. Once you get the 'JET' plate on there it'll look even younger
Sorry to hear the Wagon has gone, but needs must

Wow, the end of an era indeed
Sorry to see your car go, was always a shining example amongst scoobies, and you were always very kind and friendly to me and kids when we were newbies
All the best to you and Jess and your new addition

Thanks guys I feel better knowing I have your support.
No Mark just word of mouth with one of my customers. We are always talking cars & it just grew from one of our chats.
I'm thinking about it Nate but have sourced an alloy one that helps stop the corrosion that occurs when fitting steel light bars to ally body. Ł35.00p + Ł10.00 p&p complete with stainless fixings or Ł40 for a Disco 1 or 2.
Sold with Wolfrace wheels Fozzy so PFF7's along with lots of other spares etc will soon be available. Just seeing what stuff the new owner wants first then it's January sale time all over again.
Godspeed 335mm discs with alloy bells, front & rear pads, Green Cotton air filter, Walbro/Sytec high flow fuel pump, Prodrive PPP back box & fitted/tailored breathable Wagon dust cover to name but a few.
Cheers Pete. Looks like Essex is leading the way yet again with all these Landy's.
Now where is that shepherd?
Thanks Lorraine it was a pleasure. Nothing harder than turning up at a meet & not knowing anyone. Jess loves it and is already helping me pick some of the mods.

Have to admit......... bit of a shock........
I'm still undecided about mine - was going to PX it at the end of last year, but just couldn't bring myself to do it, but I admit a Landy wasn't on my shopping list, but this one does look very nice Mark... Enjoy!

Will do mate.
Like most of you guys I tended to think that me & the Stealth Wagon were set in stone & would be around forever a bit like Stonehenge Please no old relic jokes. Be nice.

Mark,
keep me in mind for the PPP backbox, May be better than my 'second' backbox I currently have
As said earlier, have a word with Phil re: lights for the lightbar, his are great, and use 'normal' 12v halogen bulbs that you would use around the home (from what I gather), and they are available with a spot or flood' beams.
Also, what is special about an x-tech ?

The X-TECH in 2001 was a limited edition model & came only in Zambezi Silver & has a few extras fitted as standard above the County Hard Top spec.
Extra standard features :-
•ABS/Traction Control
•Leather Clad Steering Wheel
•Load Area Rubber Cover
•Full Length Headlining
•Rear Door Cover
