any laptop experts??
am about to lift an alienware m17x laptop ... wanted something top of the line that I can game on and use for general stuff that is goinng to look a bit bling and also not be completely out of date after 2 days. Am upgrading standard processor to quad core etc as well as 250 gig hard drive, blue ray etc etc etc. But want to see what people's opinions are on these things ... anyone had any experience of owning one?

I toyed with an Alienware but the Dell support put me off and I went for a ROCK instead.
HD's are so cheap mate you may as well put in a 500GB yourself.

Go for the xtreme 840 sli and bling it up. That thing will still be up to date by the time the sun burns out

i was always told a pc will be obsolete after 3 years if it is not up graded in that time. new software will leave it behind. you do gain life span by buying the best at the time but its all relative

spoke to a guy last night that has owned both an alienware and a rock ... thanks to him for the pm ... so the alienware is the one to go for apparently, especially if I get the quadcore.
Thanks to all for opinions. Much appreciated

a very weighty business contract that was taken out with them due to the performance vs the competition.
When people put significant amounts of money into something after research I trust them more

If someone said to you "yes mate they are great and def worth buying" you would think ok i'll take on board the info and keep researching.
If someone said to you "yes mate they are great, I just took out a business contract for $185,000 with them to replace our entire company stock" then you take the comments a lot more seriousely.

We purchase our office pc's through Dell. Don't have an issue with that but just don't follow how that sways your opinion about the Alienware rig.
Either way I'm not suggesting you've made a bad purchase. Far from it, you're going to love it I am slightly jealous

But there is a difference between supplying the office with bog standard-Dell pc's and buying a top of the range gaming rig.

Same as anything in life mate. If someone backs something by putting lots of their dosh into it then you are likely to take their opinion a lot more seriousely than somebody who doesn't.
