Default Any suggestions?

Hi all,

I have a decision to make for one of final touches on the car and I just can't make up my mind...

Currently have this eyesore on the bootlid:

I can't decide whether to fit one of the V4 ones..

Or a lip spoiler..

One day (well most days), I want to go for the V4 one as this helps return to car to OE (as it is a V4). But the lip is a little bit different, although it isn't different enough to be different, if that makes sense....

I have both items in hand so it isn't like one will cost me less to buy. I will need to have the holes welded up to fir the lip though.

Can't decide....

many thanks
rossi

Just my opinion (and I am a girl so it probably doesn't count anyway ) but the V4 for sure - as you say takes the car back to OE & it is part of the car's identity!

I'm not a fan of the lip or the de-spoilered look!

If you think your car is having an identity crisis, take a look at mine - V2 STI with V5 bumpers, boot lid and bonnet not to mention a V5 spoiler!

Did you fit the V6 spoiler? Does it have extra holes in the centre of the boot? if so they will need filling for the V4 also.

My vote is the V4 BTW.

TBH Ross your car is so Uber sex it can pull off all three.

Wheels look completely harmonic with the car

Only thing I would say is... this is Matt's RA when it looked it's very best IMHO.

Cheers for the comments guys (n gals!)..

V6 was on it when I brought it. There are not any extra holes so hopefully no filling would be required if I go with the V4. However, the V6 is bonded on with something as it won't come off with just the bolts removed. I suspect it will damage the paint so will have to get it painted regardless.

Any ideas of paint code (where I can find it? VIN?) or is it just mica black?

Big fan of Matt's RA with the lip. Also DaOnes (where the pic above came from) looks superb with the lip, which is why I've been thinking about it...

I don't photo-***** much so one from the front ...

That V6 just looks stuck on....Think the V4 is winning. It is just the right size/lines to keep with the rest of the car.

I don't think the V6 looks all that bad but if you are definitely going to change it then the V4 for sure!

Tom you know what happens if you take the spoiler off, the lack of aerodynamic drag causes the engine to over rev and your con rods put in an appearance.

It is not a genuine item and has some minor marks.. Planning on putting it in general when the time comes for £60 but happy to let it go to an ESC member cheaper. Closer picture below to give you a better idea..

I'd go with the M3 lip Ross. V4 thereafter.

I think she could do with a slight drop on the KWs if you go with the lip.

Lovely car either way. I've enjoyed seeing it recently. Needs a roof vent too

Unfortunately, I already scrape over humps even though I'm not very low.

I'll get ordering....

Well.... the spoiler cme off at the weekend and made a right mess!

Whoever put it on used No Nails or similar glue. The paint wasn't in very good shape under there either.

My friend who helped remove it is a vinyl graphics man and wanted to carbon wrap the bootlid so we did...

I'm not sure about it to be honest but he thinks it looks awesome. Any opinions?

V4 spoiler is still my choice I think but need to save some pennies to have it and the bootlid sprayed.

Don't like the carbon, looks what it is, a vinyl that resembles carbon. Cheapens the look of the car IMO

I think to pull it off you'd need to do the roof and bonnet as well. It does look a little odd as it's a matte finish and the rest of the car is so shiny. A good solution though.

So did the spoiler come off in bits then?

I don't think the pics are going to show it to it's best tbh. I like it and would be tempted to buff it up a bit with some product to add some sheen. Personally non carbon wraps would look better but live with it for a bit see how it grows on you. I am tempted to do the specD, how have you spanned the holes ? if there are any ?

Cheers for the comments so far..

I'm not sold on it yet.. it's not really 'me'...

I will hopefully have time this weekend to gove it a wash 'n' wax and will wax the bootlid to see if I can gloss it a bit.

Spoiler came off as one (well the two bits upper/lower) undamaged, the only damage was to my bootlid No Nails... seriously...

As it is a temp solution, we just layered it directly over the holes (only four). The wrap itself it pretty impressive in that you can keep heating it up, lifting it etc and it still maintains its properties. The chap that did it for me done his entire 350Z in it...

Jet Seal over SRP works well for glossing up matt surfaces Ross.

Cheers fella.

I was going to go for BlackFire Wet Diamond then BlackFire Midnight Sun layered over the top.

Good to see the wagon at the weekend. Popping and banging like a good 'un!

I've read elsewhere on here that some of the glossy products had a bit of a negative effect on the 3M matt vinyl, might be worth testing a small area first.

Be careful with any product that has any form of cut. It may "remove" some of the carbon effect. Best way to get gloss on this would be to apply a layer of clear vinyl over the top. But you should be ok with a synthetic / acrylic product. Something like Poorboys EX-P. Waxes may just sit on the top and "bleed". It does depend though on the properties of the vinyl.
