Default New Tyres Time.....

Question for all…..

I’m close to renewing the tyres on my STI - the Vredestein Sessanta’s set I’ve got on now (carefully swapping round as required) has lasted for just over 20,000 miles…!!, so before getting another set of these I’m just looking for confirmation that the other tyre prices I’ve looked at are all that they are cracked up to be….

For a set of four:

From Camskill – the Vredestein Sessanta’s are £320 + delivery
From Elite (On Ebay) the Vredestein Sessanta’s are £329 + delivery (Though I will go there to collect and have fitted)…

Other makes (all on Ebay):
Toyo Proxes T1-R @ £286 + delivery
Continental Sport Contact 3 @ £414 + delivery
Avon ZZ3 @ £286.72 + delivery
Federal EVO X/Load SS-595 @ £208 + delivery

No idea what that last one is – I suspect it’s a budget one, but never heard of it before…

Any thoughts on the prices on the above before I splash out on the Vredestein Sessanta’s again?

TBH, I've never had any problems with them - almost as good as the OE REO70's, but they give a less "jiggly" ride and would be perfectly happy to use them again, but was only looking at prices of other tyres as a comparison and looking for any user comments to sway me off them....

235/45???

Mine are currently 225/45 - will the extra size cause any problems ?

Within the next month i am also changing all 4 tyres. Im going for the Vreds due to good comments on here (currently on Goodyear GSD3's). On the Elite website they are £100 fitted per corner for 225/40/18s

Looie your JDM equivalent runs 235/45/17 as does mine. Much better rim coverage, nice to have the additional width and slightly better ride quality.

Looie , I replaced my wheels and tyres with a set off of a brand new STI hatch zero miles, as I fancied the silver wheel look rather than gold ,and for under £500 I got spanking new wheels and tyres . They came with 235/45 on 17" wheels , I've been running them for a good few thousand miles now , with no problems if it helps

Didn't get around to getting the Vreddy's as they were out of stock at Elite at the time and the last couple of times I've tried ringing the guy that was prepared to do the deal, he's always busy or not there.

Group buy could be an idea!

225/45/R17 or 235/45/R17 for me, not too bothered which to be honest.

Hi Moley,

I used to have the T1R's on mine but they barely push the boundries of mediocrity.

I'm now running Yoko Parada Spec II, which are superior to the T1R in the dry but aren't very good in the wet.

Stick to the Vreds! I'm going to be going over to them at the next tyre change point.

For the OP - I had the AVON ZZ3 on one of my old 205 GTI's and they were pretty good.... for a middle tier tyre. Out of your list I'd go with the Vreddies or the Continentals.

best
rossi

I was looking but not seen a price yet. T1R's are over priced in 18's so I dare say it's alot. Vreddy's really are so much tyre for the money !

T1R's are crap and overpriced, they are like bubblegum on track and squeak like pigs!
I will be trying the Sessanta, got a set from http://www.chirkservicestation.co.uk/page1.aspx as camskill are out of stock at the moment.

T1R's are ok on a lighter classic. I really like mine but I wouldn't have them on the SpecD. They tend to grip grip grip go where as the vreddys are easier to move but it's more predictable. That said my classic slides about lovely on both sets of scrubbed T1R's I have. You need to keep them hard 38f 36r.

If I were to sum up the T1R's I would say they need commitment
