Thanks for that.

Anything I should be looking out for especially.

Had a UK Impreza before but not an import.

Was going to buy another UK2000, until I rang a few insurance companies and for some unknown reason, I can insure a classic STI cheaper than a UK model.

Ive checked and double checked, so Il do some looking.

Cheers

Ash

Just need to check the usual stuff:

Cambelt, service history. Crash History? History behind any mods, who done them.

Talk to the previous owner if buying from a dealer.

Then when you find one just get it checked out for detting etc.

That's all I would be looking for

I'd look for rust, fecked intercooler, induction kit, any of these and I am fishing for discounts or driving away. I bought a standard car with no history, 1 bit of rust, but it was cheap and as it turns out Feckin' awesome !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Owner had no idea it was 1 of a hundred 555 wagons. I did get it checked for det before I bought it which most people won't be able to do I guess.

Cambelt and a major service would always be money worth spending regardless of the history.

Don't get a 97 or 98 if you are planning on light mods only. Changing cat back exhaust and filter is ok but anything that requires a remap, such as turbo, injectors, decat, front mount etc will leave you needing an aftermarket ecu. the 97 / 98 is ecutek or piggy back ecu compatable. Wish I'd have know this before buying mine.

If you're buying a fresh import or from the first uk owner make sure you have the conformity paperwork. Basically the ok that it's been deregistered in Japan and that it's been checked out and registered properly over here. They also have to register the odometer meading when they're imported now so look out for that.

Thank you, thank you.

I had read on here before about the new ECU problem.

Only going to have it for 6 months or so, and then its company car time!! So wont be doing to many mods, well thats the plan.

I will have a look through the paperwork for the 'conformity stuff' thanks for that, never heard of it before.

You should talk to Andy then, nice standard unmolested early classic, outlay and resale wouldn't be that different for the sake of 6 months.

That's a nice example. Have seen it at the lodge a couple of times.
