Smile Richard Burns Memorial Rally Sunday 16 August

RAF Marham Sunday 16 August

Who fancies watching a bit of rallying?

All of the pit area and start line are going to be clearly visible to spectators

Easy access to the infield

Bouncy castles etc for the kids

The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight &

"The Red Arrows" will be doing a Fly Past

Scoobycity have a club stand & we are invited

Free entry to the event and show area

This is very close to all the action but we have been asked if we would have a group collection/donation towards the cause........so maybe we can all drop a few quid into a collection bucket?

Don't think I can make this one.

And be aware that they usually have a blanket ban on photography on the base.

Having lived on RAF bases as a nipper & having been a frequent visitor since, that is what I would have thought too Brian. However these were all taken by spectators & not vetted paparazzi. So perhaps they hide everything that is "sensitive" from prying eyes during the event.

not at all Brian

i was there for both days and took over 500 pics, the event is on a part where security is no issue this year, last year we had to send in a list of everyone attending with names and car reg's.

I do remember last year when we booked our tickets independantly (we'd never heard of the mighty ESC then...) there was a lot of tooing & froing - one minute we were told no photography, then it was yes, then no again....

looks like they agreed & have got it sussed this year - though I do know (as with all military bases) they are VERY sensitive about car details in advance!

Looking forward to it!

I dunno where they are all hiding Mark.

Thought they would rather watch them in action than just talk about them & polish them. And it's FREE.

Must be the early start on a Sunday putting them off.

John (Darkstars) says that should be OK as they were all leaving at different times last year with no problems. Ideally if there is an option don't park in the in-field if you want to leave early as you can't cross the track until that stage has been completed by the cars.

Gates are open from 7am So what time do you fancy being there for? We need to be parked up before 9am.

So I can hook up with you guys I will come up M11 from Stansted then there is a choice.

Is it easier for you to join from the A505 @ Duxford M11 J10 or from the A10 @ M11 J11?

You need somewhere you can wait till I either join you or let you know I am near & you join me as I go by. Duxford car park maybe @ 7.15am?

Duxford M11 J10 - M11 J14 - A14 - A10 - Downham Market - A1122 - Chalk Lane

Google says 53 miles from Duxford & 1 hour 14 mins with no hold ups.

David are you alright for Duxford or Birchanger? I can do both.

I suggested Downham Market but only because it came up as first option in search.

Is Swaffham via Munford, Brandon, Mildenhall & Newmarket etc a better road? I know it's through the woods. 55 miles from Duxford & 1 hour 20 mins.

I'm easy. Or so Jess tells me.

Hi Mark the A11 route is dual carraigeway as far as Mildenhall and after that the brandon road just never seems to have much traffic.
I haven`t been up the A10 from cambridge for a very very long time but it always used to be a single carraigeway for most if not all the way upto kings lynn. Probably most people will choose this route so the A11 could be preferential.
Decisions Decisions What do you reckon I`ll go with your plan

After 20+ years of trawling up and down this godforsaken country I have kind of developed an allergy to traffic. And many a time I have used routes which seem unorthodox but are usually quicker due to nobody else going that way. And after all said and done I like to go against the grain IMHO

However I am always grateful for a bit of "local" knowledge. Thanks for the heads up Simon.

I have just Googled my way from Duxford to Downham Market & the A10 is pretty much single all the way. So it looks like plan B is a goer.

Duxford - A505 - A11 - A14 - A11 - Mildenhall A1065 - Swaffham A47 - A1122 - Chalk Lane

Duxford to Marham via Swaffham & A11

Mark,

I forgot to confirm, I will meet you at Birchanger. Aware that yesterday was cut off for security though so hopefully I am still in.
