I've had my Ford Ranger taken away on Friday and it's been given to one of the project managers with the reason being that he uses one of the Renault Trafic vans and my truck would be easier to park up in central London!! FFS they are practically the same funking size!!
Told my director that I installed a hardwired Bluetooth kit and he said he'll pay me for it!!
What with the recent rumours that they want us to go self employed, I don't think it's looking good!!
Oh well, onwards and upwards!! After chatting to Tiny last night, he came up with a good idea - mobile PAT testing so am now looking at getting my own tester as a little side line!
Am now sat in the garden with my laptop and looking for a new job, will grab a vodka in a mo -lovely weather, on holiday for a week time to make the most of it

Hi mate its not quite that easy am registered PAT tester as well, the rules vaguely say anyone can pat test but a seperate qualification has to attained to produce and register certificates, i work within the elecical industry and i find there are so many pat testers out they're charging £1 or less an item it is a non earner imo unless you have lots of people working with you. my advice if you want to go down the testing route is to do a C&G 2391 test and inspection course and get regisitered with niciec or ECA as this covers all part P aswell. all above is only my opinion

Thanks Mike
I'm thinking about training for the 17th edition as I'm bored with mechanical engineering and fancy a change!
Part of my engineering qualifications covered electrical installs and have modified 3phase machines by fitting an invertor so slow down/speed up motors and so on, but strictly speaking I shouldn't be doing this as I'm not formally qualified, so it would be nice to have a certificate to say I'm competent.

a 2391 wouldn't qualify you to fit that, item you fit similar to a frequency changer?? to do that sort of work you would need a 2330 then go on to do a 17th ed course, to do your 17th its best to have a good knowledge of electrical work. i can give you contacts of places to do all associated courses if you wish.

Rumour has it you seriously worried some of the guys as they said they'd pulled worse looking 'birds' than you on a Saturday night!
Good luck on the work front - might well be worth getting qualified as think of all the work & £ when it comes to the Olympics................... thats if the Poles haven't taken all the work!

polish electricians are very far and few between, never met one if i'm honest and i've worked with quite a few big compaines. Working as electrician you will earn ok money but need to get a 5 year proven record to get good money or do a HNC and money gets even better. The olympic contracts are mainly been given to other european firms with very few britsh firms on the job our company put a bid in for some work only to be refused
