Default Car not running right??

Just put my rocker cover back on, started the car, and it seems to be hunting/chugging??
It was running fine before i took the cover off. Am really worried about this.
My mate reckons it could be a faulty coil pack. How do i tell which one though??

Scotty.

I think this is right.

On the side that you disturbed disconnect one of the coil packs with the engine running. If it's faulty it won't effect the running much it will still be rough. If it's ok then the engine will stall or run even rougher. You can double check by reconnecting it & then disconnect the other one. The same then applies rougher means it's ok & no change means it's faulty.

Did you disturb the spark plugs at all?

I didn't disturb the sparks to start with, but did check them just in case, but car seems to be running on 3 cylinders. My neighbour works on cars alot and reckons one of the coil packs that i removed to take the rocker cover off is faulty. Maybe i have damaged a wire.

Are coil packs prone to break down???

Scotty.

Yes they are well known for it. They get hot & then are prone to cracking & shorting out when they are disturbed.

Cheers lads. A local engineering firm near me has a EJ20 engine left over, so will see if they still have the coil packs.

How much should i be paying for a 2nd hand coil pack (max)??
