Default Nice Restaurant in Essex?

Want to take the missus out for a bite to eat at the weekend. Thing is we always end up at the same restaurant (Back Inn Time). Anyone know of a decent place in Essex. Needs to have easy parking if more than a couple of miles away from Basildon.

Preferably not Indian or Chinese as save that for takeaways.

The Blue Strawberry in Hatfield Peverel or my favourite is The Starr in Great Dunmow (also has guest rooms if you want to stay overnight).

Been in The Starr loads of times and it's a classy french resteraunt but expect to pay for it. She WILL be impressed though.

Sorry can't really help, good food is wasted on me and my dietary issues
Always find the company more important than the restaurant.

Is it a special occasion or have you been bad?

Pity no Indian as Vojan Indian restaurant and takeaway in Ongar, Essex providing Instant Online Takeaway & Delivery Ordering & table reservations facility - powered by CuisineNet.co.uk on the A414 near Mocom is really nice.

I have also heard good things about Masons A128 Masons Restaurant - Located in Brentwood Essex - Available for Conferences - Home near Brentwood and Masons Too, near Chelmsford.

You could try The Boathouse Restaurant Dedham. In the heart of Constable Country - Home which is on the river at Dedham or Milsom Hotels and Restaurants. The finest places to eat, drink, stay... also at Dedham or the Angel at Stoke by Nayland.

We had a terrible meal there last December, the service was appauling and I sent my steak back twice and when it came back wrong the 3rd time and I sent it back before he had even put it on the table I got a "FFS" muttering under the waiters breathe All I wanted was a rare steak, not rocket science. I wouldn't go back and I may be wrong but I'd heard that it had closed down????

the boatyard in leigh is absolute rubbish. leigh-ites just go there to pose and show off who has the most money ... food is basic and not worth the per head cost.

Blue strawberry is exceptional. IF you can get a booking it's well worth going there. Lovely atmosphere and the staff are efficient and knowledgeable about their menu. On the pricey side if you select the best wines to accompany your menu choice but will not fail to impress.
