Suggestions for my new car ??????
Guys,
As you all know the scoob is going be it sold or PX'd, that's the only definate I know.
What I don't know is what to get next.
Had a test drive of a Boxster today, lovely drive but I'm just not a convertible person.
So what cars are out there?, possibles are:
Golf GTi
Alfa 147
Leon Cupra
Renault Megane F1 R26
Fiesta ST
Civic Type R
Even thought about going diesel for the extra torque they give out.
I want something that will handle well with decent levels of spec budget around 15K
Whats your suggestions and why
Cheers

Have driven the leon and its a cracking drive, owned a CTR for a while, gets rather tiresome if I'm honest.
Fiesta ST might be a little small, but a great looking car, have you considered the Focus ST/RS as an alternative?

Boxters are rubbish. No matter what people say about them being the only true convertible they are a poor mans, or tight mans, (whichever way you want to think of it) 911. Plus you'll look like a total bell driving one as every little chav will want to race you and if you do succumb to the temptation you'll get beaten. Rubbish rubbish rubbish.
Golf GTi is a million years old and driven by old men and anoraks. They are a fabulous drive but look boring and dated. Even the R32 which all the golf fans masterbate over is not all that. have driven many and they make a lot of noise but don't really go anywhere.
Leon Cupra - lovely motor. Smooth, quick, undervalued.
Renault F1 - lots of dosh for some stickers.
Fiesta ST!! Are you sure!! You need a flat peak baseball cap and a stupid tracksuit tucked into white socks to get away driving one of them.
Civic Type R - only if it;s one of the older ones because the new ones are utter ****.
You want a diesel for torque!!! There are much better ways to get torque ... go and buy a mustang or a vette. don't buy something that old people and taxi drivers buy. Yeh loads of torque but about 2 horsepower and loads of horrible engine noise to go with it.
p.s. never see the point in these type of posts. oh I have x to spend what should I buy, Just find a car you like and buy it!!! it's your cash not ours!!

If you can't see the point then really no need for comment then is there.
Cookie, I can see what your saying about the ST and that is what's stopping me from looking further at them.
Must admit the Leon is up there as an option.

lol you forgot the Alfa Gangsta.
Not sure why you dis the Fiesta ST, its a great little car and I think Tiny will agree
dave, why you not considering the Focus ST? the facelift version is out now so older type prices have plummeted plus the dealer forecourts are filled with em
I think you wont be happy with anything else unless its 4WD, I'v tried it and couldnt get back into a Subaru quick enuff.

if you ask for a comment you are going to get one!!! I said I don't see the point of posts like this. If I was buying a new car, which I do every year I never ask for people's opinions, I just buy what I like to because what other people think I really couldn't give two ***** about. Just find something you like a buy it mate, if you are dithering over something then it's not the right thing to do in the first place

I don't care what people think about what I buy, but having been in scoobs for the last 4 years on and off I have lost track of what is on the market and I really don't want to be strolling around dealers for days on end looking.
Hence the request for opinions.

Ah the Alfa, the only car you don't need to say anything about because they are all gorgeous
Oh the fiesta is a fabulous car but it's the chosen weapon for any chav. Believe me my 16 year old cousin is dreaming about getting one and he's more chav than most chavs. So an adult driving one sort of gets labelled with the same brand

Scoobs are also labelled as 'Chav' cars these days, doesn't stop any of us (including you ) from buying, running and driving them.

Dave,
My first thoughts are what are you looking for in a new car? Going from a Scoob to an ST maybe considered a backward step if you've got a family to cart around etc.

I have an irrational fondness of the Alfa 147 GTA.
I love the look of that V6, the sound!
The interior is just such a nice place to be, great seats, design and style.
Outside is a lovely looking car with nothing offensive.
Other people don't know what it is, if they do, they generally like it.
People will let you out of junctions in it.
Only question is possibly the handling with that big engine up front (can't comment though as never driven one), and the rumours of build quality/reliablity.
Have a look on PH to see what you can see....
The other choice I would take would be a DC5 Type R 'Teg. My mate has just brought one and although it has a lack of low down grunt, it is really quick! It looks nice, built well and I love the seats! Better all round car than the 147 but doesn't have that special feel...
Good luck!
