Default Any Horse Riders?

My eldest daughter, Lilly, now wants to try horse riding - since we didn't much like gymnastics and trampolining, i have a feeling she'll be one of those kids who "tries" every kind of hobby!
Anyhow, as said, she now wants to try horse riding - having NEVER been on a horse in my life - I was wondering if anyone could recommend any schools?

I did call one yesterday and was quite surprised to learn they wanted £17 for a half hour session in a group of 6!!! But the hat hire was only 50 pence LMAO!!!

sarah use to ride every sunday at Belfairs, and £17 for an hour seems a reasonable price. will speak to sarah and get a contact number for you.

£17 for an hour session would be fine - but its £17 for HALF hour - which i think is a bit much.

Bibo - the place I called yesterday takes children from the age of 4 - so Lilly is old enough, however, Jessica will have to wait!

There are a couple of places in Maldon that do it- when I went through the phase I think I paid £15 for half hour but that was by myself.

I paid £11 (not £17 ) for an hour ride... but those rides are only for adults on Sundays.

Belfairs do half an hour lessons on Saturdays for kids, when I was younger it was about £30 for a course of 6 half an hour lessons, I don't think the price has gone up too much since then.

I have been (was until recently anyway) riding there for 11 years and will still quite happily go back there once bubba is born. I have grown up with the people who work there now and they are a nice group of people. And in my 11 years of horse riding I have only fallen once and that was only because I agreed to "test ride" a new horse!

Belfairs: Belfairs Riding School Ltd, Essex. or 01702 525571

But be warned it starts getting expensive when buying jodphurs, riding hats etc... although Belfairs do provide riding hats if you do not have one.

Also, they do not use "artificial aids" such as whips, crops and spurs! So no need to waste money on that. Only natural aids... hands, legs, voice and seat!

Thanks for that
I'll give them a try - tbh, Lilly is one of these kids that wants to try everything LOL, i can see her costing me a fortune over the coming years with the latests "fads"! I'll let her go, if she likes it - I'm all for kids finding something to do and horse riding, whilst probably one of the more expensive sports, is just as good as any other!
Thanks for the info - I'll give them a call.
Thanks alot

PS - you'll discover ALL of these things when "bubba" is born

OMFG - I'm sure I only have 4 dogs??? Geeez, unless your counting ME as the 5th LMAO - and I think you should make it 4.5 children - as I'm certain you should count Gooner as the additional 1.5!
As for the horse - at £17 for half hour sessions - I'll have to sell ALL scoob's and the dogs, send daren out to work for longer (if possible) and turn myself from the "5th dog" into a sex kitten LOL - to turn tricks LMAO

Ms Gooner, being a Sheikh its only natural for me to have a horse and access to a pony. The most important thing is how old is your daughter and how big. We could probably find a suitably fitting helmet and the yard is quite spacious, so she can have a nice walk around and get a feel for the equestrian life, unlike your wallet that will never recover!!!
We are based in Colchester and if you have any queries its probably easier to ring, 07912 505030 and i`ll pass you to the resident expert.
Cheers
The Sheikh

My little girl is 4 next month and we are going to let her have a riding lesson for her birthday, there is a riding school in Dry Street and one in Orsett that I am looking at. I will let you know the details once I have some.
