Depends on the job, if it's an office job, then a suit, but when I've gone for interviews as an engineer, shirt tie and trousers, not too formal

you should always wear a suit to any interview. it shows respect for your host and also that you are a presentable person.

Although its been many years since I looked for a new job, I have gone for a few internal vacancies. I've always either warn a suit or something a little more formal

As the saying goes
First impressions last
Just IMO

LOL - I've actually found it doesn't seem to matter what the job is - and I guess, If I were an employer - I'd be concerned to employ someone who has 3 VERY dependant children (i.e. all under 4). I couldn't even get a job at TESCO (how bad is that) despite having worked for their Head Office as a project manager, i was unable to fill a part time position on a checkout - and thats hardly rocket science now is it

a lot of employers now talk of their opportunities as careers not jobs, so in that they are actively seeking people who will embrace the role as part of their lives and make it their number 1 priority. If I were looking from that sort of perspective you would be bias towards a candidate who has no attachments etc and nothing they couldn't walk out on if the job required (working in the states for a period etc.) However it does sound overly harsh if tesco's are being selective for a role working as a check-out supervisor because those sort of roles are highly favoured by people who need part time work due to family committments etc. Just keep trying, something will come up

Totally agree with you there Steve!!

When someone in a suit comes into a workshop for an interview and they are wearing a suit, the first thing that pops into peoples heads is "Paper Engineer", they may have degrees and so on, but don't tend to have the logical approach or actual experience required for the job
