Sounds like you have a small leak on your heater matrix maybe,

The seam is the water evaporating as the matrix gets hot.

Are you losing any water? Is any of the carpet area wet/damp?

Is the car runing at its normal temprature?

Tell me more

Deffo sounds like a blown or leaking heater matrix.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Id see how much a new one is over getting one from a breakers.

Heater matrix's are not something id wanna take a chance on.

Purely cos i cant be arsed to change one again.

No worries

Id still get a second opinion as i cant tell for sure without looking at the car in the flesh but that would be my diagnosis given the current information.

Put some bowls of table salt in the footwells of the car and this will draw the moisture out of the carpet and atmosphere.
