Default Electrical help

Tried to post in the main section but no one has replied.... can anyone help?

I've tried to fit a boost gauge today using one of the purple wires on the rr fog switch BUT I keep blowing the fluses everytime I try and get a voltage on my meter? All I'm doing is connecting the purple wire to live on meter and earthing the meter to the chassis then BOOM!

Am I being a numpty? Never had this before? BTW there are TWO purple wires......

Thanks BB

rear fog lights are wired to the lights and a switch (are they not?)

i think you need the ignition live from under the dash. (thats what tomski used, when fitting mine)

sorry i cant help more

put your meter across the gauge illumination wire mate, it might have a dead short

Best bet is to find the ignition live its under the dash (never the steering column)
