Default the ultimate Ford RS200!!

Just bought the "Which Kit" kit car magazine as it has a feature on a Marlin kit (which I'm building) to get some ideas and found an interesting article.

Just going into production is a replica of the infamous Ford RS200 rally car which was banned because it was too fast!!

The running gear is pure 100% Subaru Impreza WRX, though the engine is in the front instead of the back like the original!

There was a company down your way that use to make the Replica's using Saph' cos's as donor cars, there web site closed down i think they were called RS performance, they did bath tub chassis with all the panels and components.

Lovely cars, not for the Tesco run though.

Oh FFS what have they done?

Spoilt the best group B car ever by putting a cak engine in, and in the wrong place.

An RS 200 is powered by a BDT evo, mid mounted and nothing else!!

Theres a reason for that lads, it was built with 8 coilovers, variable gearbox, BDT evo engine etc...

Not pony scooby setup here, cant see the 0-60 in 2.5 and the 0-100 in 5.5 comming up with a scooby setup fitted

I absolutely love this car to bits but I think those times were achieved with ridiculous amounts of turbo boost and nitrous.

I seem to recall a story about one of them crashing in the old days and exploding into a huge ball of flames becuase the roll cage was filled with nos then the co-driver tried to put the fire out with a fire extinguisher and that was filled with nos too!

I could be wrong, it's a bit early for me at the moment

Sorry mate, don't agree with that if you spent as much on developing a scooby engine as it did to make the cossy lump, it would be a different story!

Just to really upset you the production rights for the RS200 are now owned by Banham Conversions. He supplies panels for genuine RS200's as long as you give him the chasis numbers and prove you actually own one.
Not only that, Banham Conversions make a replica kit car of the RS200 using an Austin Maestro as the doner, so making a Scooby powered RS don't sound as funked up now does it

I know all of this maestro stuff mate and its rather gutting tbh.

Firstly a BDT,(Belt Driven Turbo) aint a cossie.. so theres nothing new there, they are completely different engines.

Also BDT was developed back in the early 80's and its propper old tech, even Andy Fs car is only just meeting those figures now in 2006, completely stripped of everything and it runs only on methanol.

I own a scooby cos i like driving it and its newer.. not cos its brutally fast or exciting.

You lot forget that without cars like the RS200, Lancia integrale, 6R4, Audi Quattro the scooby wouldnt even exist.

I think you find im one of the most enthusiastic scooby owners here...

Im just not up in the clouds that a scooby is the fastest or greatest car in the world mate, trouble is a scooby is the fastest car most scooby owners have ever experienced and therfore know nothing better.

scoobs are nothing special ... the owners think they are though, which is why they get disappointed when other cars show them up.

Nothing like a sweeping statement to stir things up

As this is Subaru related site I would guess most users are enthusisatic about Subaru

Invincible NO

Bloody Good Fun YES

and Mr Frayz I was watching RS200, 6R4's and Quattro's when you were a twinkle in your mothers eye so watch your sweeping statements

Don't want to get into a slanging match over this (it's not my style)

I can assure you I know full well there are many faster better handling more reliable cars out there than Subaru's. It's just the negative comments that aren't appreciated whenever the 'magnificent' Cossie is mentioned.

Yes they were fast, yes they were good fun, and groundbreaking in their day, but they are still just another fast ford.

All IMHO of course

Hhhmmmmmmm Audi Quattro, NOW we're talking. The car that changed rallying for ever....... without that there definitely wouldn't be a Scooby.

Okay Phil..

Where have i made a sweeping statement and what on earth has my age gotta do with anything???

You say theyre good fun to drive.... if you look @ my previous post i say that i own a scoob cos i like driving it. So where is the mix up here??

Sara...

As for another thread revolving around an escort cosworth..

Not the case is it.. the thread was started by Cornelius talking about a FORD RS200, i then go on to mention 6R4's and Audi Quattros.

I assume you know about Group B rallying of the 1980s, the RS200 was one of them and so were the rest to name a few... so whats the problem???

Scoobynut555...

My other comment was that ... (read it again if you have to )

I DID NOT SAY ALL...

I SAID,

MOST scooby drivers think a scoob is the best car in the world cos its the fastest most exciting thing they have experienced.

Milamber, well done mate.. someone actually recognises that without these fantastic cars the humble impreza wouldnt be here today.

If anyone has got any kind of problem etc about this so called "slanging match" (which is really someone talking some sense) then come and see me at an ESC meet and argue about it with me then.

Oh and by the way i dont use funking stupid alias's either cos i aint no keyboard hero!!

No probs mate, it's true.

I think, however, that the modern day rally cars are now quicker than the group B cars of yesteryear due to modern technology diffs/traction etc but NOTHING beats the sight and sound of an old Group B car blasting it's way through a tunnel of spectators. Those were the days

You give me an arm wrestle.. thats fine,,

Fancy a race???

Aint on the defensive, just fed up of people saying "why do i have a scooby?" "why do i slag em off?"

Simply put i aint slagging them off, if i hated it why would i own it.. but the simple fact is that the thing that makes an RS200 so amazing is its engine and drivetrain.. take that away and what do you have??

A funky looking body with no go

Yes Paul starts talking about one thing a KIT CAR and you then go on to change the subject

My problem is that everything seems to revert back to the escort cosworth AMAZED you not told me to get one instead of mine back on the road
