Default dump valve fitting question

hi guys,

i fitted a forge dump valve earlier today to MY52 wrx. an just went for a drive an it didn't feel too good.

when i fit the DV i thought it would be pretty straight forward so i disconnected the old one an just bolted the new one on. attaching the smaller tube to the top of it an obviously the bigger pipe had nothing to attach on to.

the engine light has come on in the dash an there is a small juddering as the turbo kicking in.

i have a full decat on it with the up pipe done too.

any advice on what to do would be great.

You may have a better response on General Tech, isnt there a bung that is supposed to go in the "larger" pipe?

cheers cookie...thats what i'm guessing too mate,

i take it a "bung" is some thing that just blocks up the pipe, where do i get one from?

in the mean time does anyone know if it'll be ok to block the end of the larger pipe with electrical tape.

I have heard of people using an inch of broomstick then with a jubilee clip to sucure and tighten.

This should have come with the DV kit

If it doesnt go off, start and stop the engine 5 or 6 times, if the light doesnt go out then there are other problems

Should sort it though

Sounds like you have a leak, double check all the boost hoses and everything is tight, the CEL light won't go out until the problem is sorted.

it could be one of the small bore pipes to the boost solenoids, MAP sensor (by the solenoids) or the pipe to the wastegate actuator

cheers cornelius,

i wish i knew where all them things that you said are...

hopefully the light will go off as its not been on before today(after not blocking that pipe that went from the standard DV.

if it stays on an its not obvoius whats wrong i think a quick trip over to Xtreme will be called for.

the boost solenoids/ MAP sensor are on the left hand side, on the suspension turret, can't miss it, as it has about 4 6mm pipes running into it.

cheers mate

i had a good drive of it today an at first the light was still on but then later in the day when i started her up an didn't even think to see if the light was still on, it was off........if that makes any sense. lol

its driving fine now with no probs, just the lovely soft sound of the dump valve letting off.

ps

does the DV affect the fuel consumption in any way? or was that just the way i was driving today as i've just put the DV on.

Make sure you get the correct bung! A temp fix should only be temporary!

Should only cost about £15 for a piece of Samco hose, the Bung (turned aluminium end cap) and two dubillee clips. That way you know it will not blow off under pressure causing engine damage!!!!!!!!!!!
