Like sioc before it .
Enthusiasts will never see eye to eye with the Facebook idiots.
The marque has been ruined now they are cheap.
Anywhere that considers clowns like Rotherham scoobies specialists deserve all they get.
Subaru's have gone through the desirable phase to the chav ruined stage and in 5 years will become desirable again when originality will rule.
It happens to most cars.

I could not open the link in the OP but I am assuming from the subsequent comments that it is not complimentary to YouScoob.
Why do you feel the need to pass negative criticism on something you have not had personal experience of yourself ?
Any group will have an element of 'idiots', but they are usually fleeting visitors who have no influence on the group as a whole. The core members of YouScoob are decent, committed Subaru owners who have a wealth of experience which they are happy to share for the benefit of others in the group who don't have similar knowledge / skills. In addition the amount of money raised in the past couple of years by various fund-rasing activities has been exceptional, and the variety of different events organised to suit all sorts of tastes in car club membership has also been exceptional.
I have also found a level of camaraderie that extends beyond car ownership and involves all the family.
As an 'Essex Scooby Crew' member since 2007, I am obviously not qualified to talk about the golden age of ESC which was before my time, but I am glad that I am now one of the 'Facebook idiots' and no longer privy to the unproductive, holier than thou attitude that obviously still exists here.

I do quite agree, every group has its percentage of fools, jokers and idiots.
What I take issue with is the aggressive recruitment process of youscoob and the slow infestation of the core South East or classic ESC events that were once the 'events' of the UK Subaru scene, such as the annual Tunnel Run, Brighton Trip and the regular Basildon to Southend - these events are now the domain of Facebook chimps and people dressed as Hannah Barbarra's 'Scooby-Doo' animated character.
I'm fully aware there is nothing that can be done to regress the tide of the said 'youscoober', but these events have their links and history to the enthusiasts, fans, family of the ESC or even ESOC - not the oiks of youscoob.
And it's an absolute travesty.

I certainly haven't experienced the 'aggressive recruitment' that you mention, and I have been around YouScoob long enough now.
The ESC events that you refer to were dying a slow death - The Brighton Run 3 or 4 years ago was attended by the grand total of 2 people - myself and Ron - the Basildon to Southend Cruise was dwindling; if there were 10 cars there then that was considered a good month! It was the advent of YouScoob that revived these events to the well attended ones they are today.
As for the dressing up in Scooby Doo outfits, that was a one off and associated with the fun nature of the charity event, and raising funds has been something YouScoob has been successfully pro-active with - after all wasn't the original purpose of the ESC Tunnel Run in its hey-day to raise funds for charity?
One of the principles of You Scoob is to put on family centred events, eg, last year I took my 85 year old Mum on the Broadstairs outing and she was welcomed and thoroughly enjoyed it, what's wrong with that?? There are plenty of 'high class' car events throughout the year, eg Goodwood, that purists can attend if they can afford them and want to show off their technical knowledge ,at the end of the day we've got blooming Subaru's, not Ferrari's or Lamborghini's, where is all this car snobbery coming from??
Travesty?? What is wrong with a group of people coming together and enjoying their cars, even if not all the cars are to our taste; each to their own, they are all someone's pride and joy, and should be shown off and shared on Facebook if that's what they want to do!
I know that if I had any problems with my car, or in any aspect of my life for that matter, then someone from YouScoob would help me out, and I don't see that happening with the Scoobynet community on here, in fact surely it should be renamed, as 'Scoobynet' sounds frightfully chavvy and common to me

An update! Myself and a friend decided to pay a visit to the ESC meet after a number of years away...

What to say... Well if you enjoy joy riding around the country lanes of Southend at breakneck speed with among 25+ other fine examples of the breed, it is right up your street.
Appears the park up along the front at the cafe has long since been abandoned for ... a park up at McDonald's. Classy whilst also so stereotypical.
Head by a woman called Cheryl on Facebook, leads the charge through Southend. Who you may ask? Never heard of her either 😂

I am in no means a Subaru 'snob', but that run will be my last one. With the exception of one or two others, there seems to be no real 'enthusiasts' any more. Nobody wants to talk about the cars or even seems to know anything about them. I actually felt embarrassed when we pulled over on the way to Rochford and folk were getting out of their cars on the dual-carriageway FFS.
'I know what I'm going to do.....get out of my car on a dual carriageway in the middle of Southend, dance around like a 5 year old on 10 cans of monster a day and pose for photos'. Then I'm going to drive up people's ***** at 150mph because I think my stickered up WRX with 'pops and bangs' is the fastest thing on 4 wheels'.
What happened to days there where folk wanted to talk about cars and didn't drive like *****? Don't get me wrong, I'm all for putting your foot down when the time is right, but not when it's blindingly obvious it's dangerous to do so
. Just the Rodney meet for me from now on.........unless someone wants to organise a proper enthusiast meet?

I've never been to an esc meet, so I can't pass judgement. I will say that the esoc meets that I've been to have all been about chatting with fellow subaru owners (past and present) about well er subarus who have a genuine interest in the marque in general. Sure, numbers aren't massive but I think there's quality over quantity.

How many current Subaru owners used to trek around Europe actually going to support the works team year after year. How many actually have stood in the vinyards to watch the likes of Solberg, Atkinson and Sarrazin tear past?
Call me a snob, stuck up, call me what you like... most do.
But im personally not interested in tearing around like a ****, nor am I impressed with flashy lights, deafening exhausts and bolt on tat.
Not saying that's what YouScoob or any other groups are, im saying that is what the ESOC certainly isn't.
The genuine enthusiasts have stuck around and those that don't like it have moved away.
That's fine.
Anyone who is genuinely interested in the marque and what its is all about is more than welcome and will always be welcomed by the friendly faces at any ESOC gathering.

I'm fairly new to the Subaru scene, having only bought my first one in January last year. However, I've been to several different meets with different clubs and I've noticed some very alarming differences.
Firstly, I AM a member on the SIOC page on facebook and I'm not ashamed to admit it. However, it's rare to find an informative post in between all the 'look at my homemade sticker kit' and 'are these £135 ebay brake kits good enough for my WRX'. Of course, the page is run by a few admins who are happy to throw the ban-hammer down should anyone dare to slag off anything about their cars. But there are a few good nuggets of posts, if as rare as hen's teeth.
I went to a KentImpreza's/Youscoob joint meet a few months back and it was possibly the worst day in my life. I'd got talking to several of their members, both young and old, and they seemed like a reasonable bunch. However, turning up on the day made me look like a fool.
I parked up, started to have a look around the various cars on display (some nice, others needed to be scrapped) and it took ALMOST HALF AN HOUR for someone to say hello to me. Virtually everyone was happy staying in their little groups and barely noticed me. Then it's another half hour listening to a 'MOT tester' chatting about his 'amazing' WRX that had more rust than the Titanic. Safe to say, I won't be returning to that.
Finally, and happily, the ESOC meets. I've attended half a dozen now in the space of a yar and find them very enjoyable. Everyone has information and opinions. But we dicuss it as enthusiast, rather than 'mine is better so **** you'. The static meets are always a winner for me as I have no interest in blatting around Essex and risking an accident. Yes, my car has a carbon fibre wrap, stickers and a loud exhaust, but I'm still welcomed and accepted for what I am, which is a Subaru enthusiast. I will continue the ESOC meets for as long as I have air in my lungs and a boxer turbo in my bay. Quality over qualtity means a lot to me. I'd rather sit at the Rodney with a dozen enthusiasts over a car park at McDonald's with 50 ********* in WRX's.

I am very thankful for what became the ESOC. I attend what meets I can at The Rodney and have also been accepted for my lights, exhaust and bolt on tat

I'm on all the facebook groups, just to be nosey really. You can immediately tell the difference between the enthusiasts and not. It would be nice to have larger meets but I wouldn't swap just for numbers sake. I would come along to another ESOC meet but never have I felt like going to a Youscoob/ESC meet.

The Rodney meet IS an enthusiasts meet. This was the very reason the ESOC was started up, to steer away from what the Subaru scene had become. I have been slagged off left right and centre for wanting something more for the purists, not elite... purists.
