Default Running issue

I have an impreza type r v5 1999 with hesitation problems, when driving car it has slight misfire/fuel starvation it's like awful turbo lag, but I get it even in first gear! In any other gear it will cough and splutter like it's only firing on 2 cylinders! The car doesn't seem to rev freely and isn't responsive at all! I have no cel on and have checked all pipes for vac leak ect!

I'm waiting for the guy that did my ecutek to ring me back (bin waiting since last week) it's really irritating!

Any ideas?

first off dont keep trying to cause the issue, it may well be the ecu is pulling it back to try to sve the engine. can you get it to a specialist with a RR for them to take a look?

I've been trying to contact the tuner that remapped the car for over a week now, I wanted him to check it over as he knows the car but he won't reply to texts or answer his phone, which doesn't fill me with confidence!

The car has started misfiring constantly at around 2500 revs in every gear and feels like it's running much slower! But occasionally will run ok, tick over is all over the place! I disconnected the MAF today and all of a sudden the tick over and engine note sounded perfect! I only did it down my road but when I drove it, the misfire was still there but upto that point it is massively improved, so I'm thinking the recently replaced MAF has gone knackered already! Less than a week old, is there a way to check the MAF, because I'm sure I cannot return it, which is a joke!

Also is There a certain way to reset the ecu with an ecutek remap? I just left the battery disconnected to clear codes?? Is this the correct way with an ecutek?

I'm having this exact problem right now.. mine is a 2007model Forester with a vf34 and ecutek tune( done by MRT) and its doing the same thing.. but only intermittently. some days it won't.

I've got mine at my mates shop now.. he has checked the coil packs there look fine( and are extremely expensive to replace). now he is checking the in tank fuel pump. havent found the problem yet. were also sourcing a replcement airflow sensor.

mine feels like if you drove an old car with the choke on...

it barely boosts.. feels crap and unresponsive.

Let me know how you go.
i'll do the same

I was happy with the car when it was mapped, he got just over 300bhp, it isn't as savage as it used to be which I was disappointed with but he assured me the car is faster and safer than before! Not sure about this but he is highly recommended on here and other forums!

I have tried ringing yet again and left yet another message and still nothing! Very poor customer service in my opinion as it's only been a matter of weeks since the remap and now this has happened! I'm based in Preston and have rung several local garages who have all told me when he doesn't know how to use his phone and don't think it's just me! But after two weeks you'd think he'd have the decency to call me back!

I'm going to buy another maf and try that! As when I disconnect it, the revs even out and the car sounds much better on tickover!

Any suggestions on where to get one for the best price?

being a 99 I would suggest replacing the maf sensor and resetting the ecu as they are not mega money and then you have ruled that out..

Yeah I ordered yet another one yesterday! £140 so not that cheap, but have spoke to someone about fitting a MAF of a new model and mapping it in! They have had it done on there's and say it's never been as good and even used a second had MAF sensor! I'll try this and see it cures it, but long term I'm going to look at that option as I'm getting less than 1000 miles out of a MAF if it is the case

Thanks

what air filters on the car?

could be vibration.

ultimately a mafless ecu would save hassle if thats the problem.

Yes the newage maf sensor can be used.

It's running the standard subaru air filter! I've even bought a new one of them just in case! The filter box is solid no vibration that I can notice!

shouldnt really be eating maf sensors then.. this is assuming the assumption it sounds like a maf issue now is correct.

I'll give the new one a try and fingers crossed it cures the problem! When I unplug the MAF the engine does sound much better tho! So I'm assuming it is the issue! Although they should really last longer than a drive down the road!

Well that was £140 wasted and some road rage! It's not the maf!

I'm getting very annoyed with the mapper now!! I'm sure 10 minutes and he'd know what the problem is but he still not answering!

Any other ideas?

Is there a way of testing these without replacing everything?

Had a good look at the car today to make sure everything was tight ect! Not noticed anything at all! The car starts fine but does seam to chuck out a lot more smoke than usual! It's more like condensation def not burning oil! But may be due to to much fuel?!?

The plot thickens!

The tickover is fairly irratic on the car, as I was touching wires around the maf, the tickover suddenly stopped being irratic and sounded almost perfect!

I cannot find exactly what or where it is but when I touch the plug on the maf the revs go up and the engine sounds much better!

I cannot find exactly which bit it is for the car to do it every time I touch it but it does make a difference when I get the sweet spot! Maybe this is the problem?!?

The wires and connections are clean and I have sprayed them with contact cleaner, although I don't know how to test it or take the sealed plug to bits to make sure the connections inside are intact?!?

I have made a video how do I upload it?

What's the next step guys?!?
