Default Boost Issues with MY00 Turbo 2000

Hi All,

Seem to be have developed a bit of a strange boost problem on my impreza, it’s a MY00 UK Turbo 2000 with Decat full exhaust and a stainless cone air filter with hard induction pipe but otherwise standard. Whats happening is under hard acceleration the turbo will spool almost too freely, not quite reaching fuel cut but not far off, it will then drop back to about 5psi for a few seconds and then go again this time reaching 11psi and holding until I change gear. It only happens under hard acceleration, if you build the revs gently until about 4000-4500 rpm and then give it the beans it seems to cope fine.

I’m fitting a front mount and 255 walbro pump this weekend and then it will be off for a map, has anyone had an issue like this before or can anyone offer any advice? I have cleaned the boost solenoid before and was gonna give that another go, was also serviced last week so no issues with that.

Thanks in advance

its because of the decat & induction kit

it will be all sorted if you are getting it mapped

Thanks Gambit, yeah i was warned that fitting a cone filter will directly effect the standard map but it has been running fine with it on for the last 6 months or so, maybe lom it's only recently developed the problem. I will defo be getting her mapped once the other bits are on also have a nice set of headers to fit.

It's still perfectly driveable just have to be cautious about how hard i accelerate. And the last time i cleaned the solenoid it had a lot of crap come out of it thats why i thought about cleaning it again.

Your describing all the issues related to an unmapped car with mods in my opinion.

Ah Mr Monster ..... Thanks for taking the time to reply really appreciate it.

My closest mapper would be engine tuner in plymouth, it's not like i drive like i forgot i'm not colin mcrae lol, to be honest i'm very steady with the car most the time. will get these bits on asap and get her in for a mapping session hopefully this will resolve the issue.

Thanks so far guys

if you plan on waiting to get it mapped id stay away from boost or in those 28 days you may be saving for a new engine.

Thanks mate yeah i'm aware of the possible disasters, but, i will just say and i'm not saying that it's right, there is a guy running a uk turbo 2000 like mine in a club here that i'm a member of, he's got full turbo back, cone filter and running a front mount with NO remap and running a very healthy 262bhp according to it's last RR at engine tuner, and has been like this for 3 years!! Like i said i'm not saying this is the way to go but it does show that not all the horror stories are true.

My problem is work, i just don't have the spare time to spend a day out at the moment, it will be driven very gently until i get it mapped

Just done a search on the Z32 maf mate and from what i've read nearly everyone that has done it is running an apexi commander ecu. Can i run this maf on a ECUTEK mapped ecu?
