FP 71HTA from the US
Anyone got any thoughts on a FP 71HTA turbo?
Think Cheveron Motorsport sell these for near £1500...waring on a call back from Simon on Turaday as he is on holiday...
Been told Cheveron are the only supplier of this turbo..
However I have found one in the US..

Would this be the same? As I am in heading out that way in a few months..and can bring this back with me..

I had a FP red on my hatchback ,, very good turbo and got a lot more power out of it than expected as it made 530bhp at 1.7bar ,, Owen developments also stock the FP range and they dont sell any crap ,,,, id buy direct from forced performance

So I am thinking to buy direct from Forced performance...but I guess I am trying to fond out if the turbos are the same or been modified for the UK.

I think Owen Developments do not sell the 71hta or the 68hta .this is exclusive to cheveron..

forced performance are very easy to deal with and were loads of help when I first got mine as there wasn't hardly anyone in the uk running them at the time so was a bit of a gamble with regard to what power it made ,,, most said that being a turbo from the states it wouldn't make the power they advertise as we calculate our different but it made lots more than expected so I was very pleased and it performed great and is still going strong 5 years later
our exchange rate was a lot better back then aswell so it was half the price of what it is now lol

Yup..gone are the days of the good exchange rate... lol
Looking at the site,
Will i need an internal wastegate? unsure of the purpose, and if its external what will i need to purchase?
Porting is little additional - is there a benifit to this? is anything extra required if i decide to port?
Costng the housing i think is a must?
Mind you it only works out near £300 cheaper then buying from the UK..

you would want a internal waste gate ,,, external is for a lot larger turbos ,,, and is a lot more money to do ,,,,, the internal gate will work fine ,, mine was a internal gated one ,,, mine wasn't coated but I would if I was buying again ,,,, not sure porting would help at that level but it might help a bit ,,,,, yeah the exchange rate has let us right down with regard to importing stuff ,,, it might be cheaper to get it from the uk now

Having spoken to Owen Development - they said they do not use the FP turbo, only a small part of it..i forget what it is called..however the modified turbo is only avlalible to Cheveron and no on else..
Cant understand why it is branded Forced Performace 71HTA?
Will have a chat with Simon @ Cheveron tommorow to get more info,

Forced Performance are based in the US with particular interest in the Mitsubishi range of turbochargers when used for high performance vehicles. FP make such components to enable the characteristics of standard turbos to be improved for specific applications, more often than not for drag racing.
Owen Developments are a Forced Performance Distributor.
