Default Ebay 3 port solenoid, Anyone got one?

Hi All

Does anyone have any experience with one of these cheap Ebay 3 port solenoids?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3-Port-Ele...sAAOSw7NNUCwOF

I have a standard WRX blob which is about to be mapped so not running any mad pressures.

Would this be sufficient?

Thanks!

Just buy a used classic 3 port, they are very good and not a lot of money.

Ok thanks for the fast response...Silly question but on EBAY, some are listed as WRX classic 3 port and some are listed as STI classic 3 port, Is there a difference?

Did the WRX and STI classics have different Solenoids? They look identical

Thanks!

Not a 100 percent on that one sorry, but someone will confirm. I'd go with an sti one to be sure, or ask for part numbers and see if they're the same.

most difference I've seen is some have a blue sticker and some have a red sticker on the classic 3ports. A WRX really won't see much benefit from it though unless you've a long list of modifications. The TD04 is limited by the size of the hot side and the compressor so forcing it to make mad boost at high RPM's will see no gains in power.

For what it's worth those MAC valves (ebay ones) aren't too bad, a little twitchy sometimes but if your target is a solid non-tapering 1.5bar or more then they will get the job done so better suited to a high performance build with an aftermarket turbo.

Thanks for the reply.

Yes I have the standard td04 but i read on racedynamix's site that a 3 port is recommended. Currently I boost to 0.9 bar and it tends to slightly overboost to 1 bar then drop down immediately . I understand after a map it should reach 1.3 bar and i thought for the sake of 40 quid, I may aswell follow the recommendation and upgrade to a 3 port as I assume boost contol will be more presise and the mapper will be happier!

If you think that their is minimal difference between the blue and red label solenoids, then I will go for any 3 port classic solenoid I see, be it off a wrx or sti.

You agree??

Thanks!

Why don't you look at one of these:

http://www.scoobyworx.com/swrd-3-por...id-11302-p.asp

They are a bargain at the £50 mark and made by the same company that made the original Prodrive 3 port units that came highly rated. Can't beat it for the money to be honest and peace of mind.

can definitely vouch for the scoobyworx solenoid, used a good few of them now and never had a bother.

For your TD04 hitting different boost targets here and there, that's because it needs mapped. If in doubt contact your mapper though, they may have a specific brand they like best so no point surprising them with something they've never seen before or something they've seen and don't like working with!
