Default FMIC Choices

Hi, am back in a scoob after a while off. Just got a Bugeye with api forged bottom end, headers, full system and decat and BR developments ekutec map and a brand new vf35 I am aware for more power I need injectors and a bigger turbo as I am at max with the vf35 (345/345 ish) so figure if I am aiming for 400 ish do I need to be going fmic too? I notice the Perrin and hyper flow monster kits are 1k plus, but wondered if anyone had any good experiences with the cheaper japspeed or hybrid/hdi intercoolers? Or if 400 is my target shall I just stick with the Sti top mount? And am I best looking at a new ecu for this package or will an ecutek tweak suffice? Thanks in advance

I get the impression a lot of it centers around the price tbh, it's decent for a £200 intercooler kit.

I use ETS coolers, the cores are the same that AMS use IIRC and not a bad price for £500 for a 3.5 inch core

Is it worth the extra money though as the op is aiming for circa 400bhp and have read the japspeed kit is more than adequate, I'm soon to purchase a fmic and think there kit will be more than suffice for my needs

Absolutely worth it mate. 400 bhp for road use id be using sti top mount for maximum response but track car would benefit from the front mount more.
The best advice anyone can give a Scooby owner is don't buy cheap Chinese rubbish.

Best of luck

The newage japseed fmic is actually a decent bit of kit, I was using one at just under 500bhp and then upgraded to a hdi setup and the intake temps, turbo response and power output was pretty much the same.

I agree with Ganzey regarding buying cheap but i would have no problem recommending the japspeed kit as it does its job and its a good fit.

This.

Hdi kit is also not a great fit. Pipework doesn't sit right and needs modifying etc....

Totally agree about the pipework on both of these kits. It does take some fettling, but the quality of the Hdi gt2 core is far superior to the japspeed one and for the small amount of money they are its a no brainier for me.
