Default Alcatek info please

Hi, just wanted to know, if I purchased a second hand alcatek ecu, would it be straight forward for a mapper to map it?
I.e it's not locked or anything is it?
Thanks

No, not locked. Simple fit and map.

Assuming it doesn't need updating

Um...pretty sure they are locked to the original mapper. Unlocking needs to be co-ordinated with AlcaTek as I understand it.

Simon had no issue with mine, he definitely wasn't the previous mapper on the ECU.

Again Duncan just tweaked Simins map wirh no issues.

Unless they contacted Alcatek when I wasn't looking.

Mappers can usually get the codes from AlcaTek, and this may well have been done without your knowledge (as long as the previous mapper is in agreement I guess). Unless AlcaTek have softened their stance on this of course...not being a mapper, I wouldn't know!

I'm gonna guess you know a lot more than I do about ECUs, so I'll ammend my answer to "I don't know"

Thanks guys, yes I did belive mappers need to contact Andy for a new profile (which maybe a fee added, dependant on mapper, I don't know)
And then mapping fees, in which case could work out same as buying direct?
Not forgetting no warranty by doing it this way as its a second hand ecu?

I'm ordering one via a mapper instead for the sake of saving a couple of pennies (well I thought).

Best ordering via a mapper, as If you do need a code Andy is not the easiest guy to get hold of busta

Already decided it, as if I bought a second hand one, I'd only save £100.

Buying new, fitted and mapped. Just need to give mapper a week or so notice.
