Global ign retard for a 99ron map to 97ron
When I had my old wrx mapped on a Pfc I was told that a 4deg ign retard would allow the use of 97ron fuel in the event that I was stuck. The commander was always in the car so this was easy.
What have other diy-ers done in order to generate maps for both low and high octane fuels? I really don't fancy having to fill up with 97 and repeat the entire mapping process even though I could.

IMO repeating the mapping process is the only way to ensure safe ignition timing for 97ron.
A global retard, whilst OK in most cases, could still leave certain areas or rpm/load that the engine is more sensitive to the start of det.

For the same reason as you I think I'll be mapping on 97 in future and accepting the slight hit in power just for the convenience.
Seems a shame when there's a shell garage right next to my house but it's a pain in the **** tracking them down when driving long distance.

but true indeed. Everytime i go somwehere long distance, as soon as I go under half a tank, i start looking for shell stations.
if have dyno's would be interesting to see how much power you lose when switching to the 97 fuel.
