Serious boost creep problem
Hi there guys would be appreciated if anyone could help me here. I have a boost creep problem driving me nuts. Bought the car totally standard it's a forester sti 2006. Took it to Ian litchfield for a ecutek remap and a miltek dcat from the manifold and the cars been boost creeping ever since. I live in Scotland And now have then took the car to hypertech spent a a fortune in there aswell to try sort it. They have put on prodrive sportcat front pipe on and Ian litchfield sent up a miltek centre section sportscat to make sum back pressure to try and solve the problem. But the problem still there but not half as bad. Hypertech believe its problem with wastegate on the turbo. Can anyone give me some information getting this problem solved? I believe it could be the ecutek remap any ideas guys?? Thanks very much sloss sti :-)

It's probably gonna need ported. I'm sure people with more experience will be along soon enough with suggestions though. The TD04 can spool mighty quick as it is but decatting the up/downpipes can cause trouble. Certainly happened to me anyway! I never actually got to the bottom of it. I parked mine up for the winter and have got a TD05 and a new up pipe.

Cheers mate for the info. But does porting it not make the turbo weaker? And how much did you pay for your tdo5 if you don't mind me asking and was it brand new? Thanks slossy ;-)

No it won't do the turbo any harm at all. You only need to open the wastegate port up by a couple of mm at most.
My TD05 was a used one bought from a member on here for £50 plus postage. It was in good condition but I'm rebuilding it with new bearings and seals anyway while it's off the car. I also had to modify the compressor housing to front entry instead of top entry as the majority of them are as standard.

That's odd it's had a change in the past then
Must of had a single scroll dp the tdo4 single scroll and the cat back
As the jdm versions run different length exhausts
So. Something is amiss
Bet you someone has wanted to make some extra Money trading it in and selling the twin scroll setup separately

I imported it through newera imports car was driving great just in need of a bit more power. Ian litchfield mapped it and put on a 3inch miltek decat for the manifold and the problems all begain :-(

Did he road map it? Sounds like typical Litchfield
If you had an r35 you would of been waited on hand and foot. Guy needs to remember where he has gotten to now because of the subaru folk

Sounds like something is amiss indeed! Better get the car off to someone that's gonna do a proper job. The TD04 being present would be a bit worrying to start with. Maybe get the map sorted out and go from there.

Thank you very much I had a war with him on the phone tell him he's wrecked my car and his head is to far up they skyline's backside. So he sent sportscat centre section up and said that would cure the problem because there would be more back pressure . But am still no further on . Was go to put the standard exhaust on to see if that would ?

You could try it mate but I doubt it'll help much. You've got more gas coming out of the engine and the turbo can't vent it away quick enough to stop the boost creep. Do you know what the boost pressure is set at?

Well there's a possibility that if the boost was lowered it might help but really it sounds like the boost profile is all wrong. The wastegate duty needs to be looked at and sorted out. As I said before I had an overboost issue where my WG couldn't react as fast as the turbo could spool if that makes sense. Porting would help me too. But your map sounds as if it simply isn't set up properly to manage the turbo appropriately.
