They did an EPROM adaptor board for 97/8 many years ago. It's the equivalent of the 27c1028 chip for a 92/6 you can get from ebay. Not mappable, no way of knowing what sort of static map is on it, no features like motorsports stuff, twin maps, etc.
Done abit of research people that had them fitted say mapped.

Because they are EPROMs, so not live mappable and not mappable in any real sense of the word. (Unless you count removing eproms, finding all the relevant parameters, writing your own software, finding the correct adapters, finding a machine that will burn them, then physically removing them every time you want to make any sort of change, mapping).
I'm willing to be proved wrong though, show us what you found with your research. Where is the software? What mappers use it?
Jay why are you trying to find alternatives to the tried and tested? Is this a cost kind of thing? If so why would you scrimp on mapping?
If it isnt common on here its probably not worth the effort knowing we have some of the best subaru tuners arond on here I would ask yourself why it isnt used by them more often if it was any good.
I've stumbled on this ECU, that some is trying to sell as a Prodrive ecu, now i'm not thinking of buying it as i already have my ecu sorted. But to me that looks like an 8S ecu with a chiptorque expansion board fitted? Am i right?
