Default 2008 sti ringland failure costs

Hi guys

Today I had the bad news that my car has got the dreaded ringland failure, I had spent a bit on the car already, ie remap etc....

My problem is what to do garage has quoted £3200 plus vat to have forged pistons in and to get it in top form.

Is this a fair price or can it be done cheaper, do I sell the car now or have the work done.

If you have been in a similar position can you tell me the outcome and costs involved how did the car perform after the work.

Your guys are always helpful so help me out please

My car was a new age 2008 sti 65000 paid £11750 5 months ago

To say I'm gutted is an understatement

Not that I've had to fork out for anything like that yet, it sounds pretty expensive to me. Have a shop around. I'm sure there are guys on here that can and will recommend an engine builder for much less than that. Sit tight and wait for them to come along.

The Hatch ringland failure is well documented, on here & if you Google it, I presume you bought the car without this knowledge to say your gutted about it.

As for price you have been quoted, that is a very fair price if the engine is being completely stripped & pistons honed to bores, & not dropped into existing bores, as thats a bodge that rarely works, also at 65,000 miles there will be valve work required on 2.5's, especially the exhaust's, so if that has not been included your quote will rise.
