Default mobile mapping

I've been looking into how to get my car remapped, been on a few websites, some seem to offer just a basic programe that is loaded to your ecu which is not what i need.

Been thinking about mobile mapping, how does that work?

As i know alot of mappers using rolling roads

Other mappers have said just drop the car off, which will not be happing i trust no one with my Impreza where it goes i go

Mobile mapping can either happen on the (private ) road or dyno, or a mix of both.
I know Dynamix does road and dyno mapping, and also has set days at certain RR venues, and Paul @ Zen also does dyno and road mapping where individual appointments can be arranged. Otherwise just talk to one of the mobile guys and see what arrangements they offer.

Cost depends on what sort of mapping you require.
I can only offer a very rough estimate, but first time EcuTek for instance can be around £550, but open source mapping can be around £300-ish.
You really need to speak to a good mapper about your individual requirement and see what the current charges are.
Try RaceDynamix, Zen, JGM and see what they say.

He set the car up with sensors etc, we found a (private) road and I followed his instruction on how to drive. we pulled over turned off the car then back on a few times, presumably to refresh changes and carried on until he was happy, mine was just a running map as I had just built a new engine.

Most mapping is a custom job to suit your car and driving style.
A mapper will give you what you want (or need) within reason. If you need a safe running in map, then that's what you'll get and it probably won't take very long or cost a great deal, especially if it's a standard ecu set up. They will have a library of suitable maps for a quick upload wih a little refinement for individual requirements.
If, on the other hand, you need a Syvecs setting up from scratch to handle big power on multiple maps with all the bells and whistles such as A/L, L/C, in gear boost control, and then add Methanol on top for good measure, perhaps with NoS as well, then you can expect it to take a bit longer, and probably cost more too.
You really need to speak to a mapper and tell them what you (think you) want

No Jay. Andrew is very hands on and much prefers to drive so he can have a feel for how the car is responding to tweaks to make sure it has the best drivability possible

I've personally never handed my keys to anybody, it's always been myself driving when mapping is carried out. Another vote for bob as well although there are plenty of good guys out there

Jay where are you based?

Group mapping days reduce the cost of having your car mapped, if there is someone local to you who organises such events then id opt for this

The mapper will come to you's and map say 4-5 cars in a day

Had my car mapped by Andrew Carr in June, just before a long trip to the Nurburgring for a two day track day. The car worked flawlessly for both days, pulled hard all day, for two days, without any problems.

Great guy and the car felt much better after he mapped it. I definitely recommend him.

Matt.
