Default EcuLabs - are many classics running this?

Just looking in to remapping my uk classic (year 2000). Going from previous threads there's a few options:
Fully after market ECU ~£1000+ or there's 2 options keeping the standard ECU:
EcuTek £660
or Eculabs for £400.

I'm not running anything other than a filter & pipe and don't want anything more special than to get the best from the car as it is so the stand alone isn't worth the outlay. The EcuTek seems expensive compared to the EcuLabs and I can't really see and negatives to it (it actually seems to give slightly better functionality). So my question is how popular is the EcuLabs and is it as good as it appears to be?

Hi, I'm running EcuLabs, very pleased so far, I have most of the "toys" , Launch Control, Flat Foot Shifting, Speed Density (MAFless), different boost each gear etc , my only criticism is the car pops & bangs a bit but as I asked for a "drag race" map I can hardly complain lol Going for a "sensible" second map for road/trackday use soon.
Watch the pricing, is that all with VAT or not?
For your car you could :
1) buy a second hand licenced ECutek ECu for about £100 & then get that mapped for £300 cash
2) Go basic EcuLabs single map £340 plus VAT equals £408
Cheers John

Did you gain a lot from the ecu labs in power and where did you go for this mapping to take place.

Hi Rick81, are you asking about a remap on a standard 99/00 impreza? With a panel filter/induction kit & decat exhaust you could prob get to 260-270 bhp with a remap (215 std)
My car had a VF35 turbo & 550 injectors bolted on just before remap so my car went from 230ish to 320ish
All my Scoob work is done at Mocom Racing including mapping.

Yes the prices is said above for ecutek and eculabs is including vat. Obviously the top end stand alone is only a rough guide because there's so many options.

Ecutek second hand is a bit of a risk because it might be locked by the original tuner (correct me if I'm wrong) so will need to buy another licence anyway.

Interested in your mafless tune! I just had to fork out £125 for a new maf What's the catch with going mafless?

Hi Eddie,
not heard of tuners "locking" their maps on Ecutek but I could be wrong, I actually bought an Ecutek ECU licenced & mapped by Pat H : Bob Rawle said he could map it no problem
The only drawback re going mafless is that the ECU will loose some (or all?) of its self-learning facility,if I so much as change my backbox I strictly should get my car remapped.(But really that is true for any mapped car lol )
Also the car will not adapt quite so well to ambient temperature, air density, etc but unless yr driving across the Sahara or North Pole I don't think that'll be a problem!
The EcuLabs Speed Density (mafless) mapping is more costly:

EcuLabs basic (using maf ) single map = £408 incl VAT
EcuLabs Speed Density (mafless) single map = £516 incl vat

THE GREAT THING is you no longer have to worry about that poxy 99/00 MAF, so well worth it in my opinion.
Also I had my spec pretty much worked out & this would be best with any kind of mapping, work out yr spec THEN get it mapped, as adding bits later gets expensive

You won't gain anything power wise going mafless. The forester standard turbo will do around 220-230 depending on exhaust mods once mapped.

Best mod is to fit a td04 and remap

Go on Rick81 , get those bits bolted on & give Simon (Jolly Green Monster) a call lol
Oh BTW the Mafless mapping is more expensive as it is FAR more time consuming for the mapper !! Mocom Racing are in Essex so great for me.
AFAIK you can't go mafless with Ecutek but I could be wrong.

In the interest of fairness I should also mention there are other very good mappers but I don't think they offer the Eculabs software:
Duncan at Racedynamix & of course the "guvnor" Bob Rawle
Bob mapped my V5 STI Type R with Ecutek, drove like a factory car !!

I don't think he does EcuLab but it would be sweet if he did!. I believe he's all over but mainly around the south east.

How very dare you sir, I'm dancing around my handbag in my white stilettos in anger lol

Simon (JGM) is mobile , ask him! I'm not sure if he would be willing to bolt on yr TD04 & exhaust at the same time but no harm asking!

Eddie,I'm sure Zak at Mocom Racing would be happy to sort a group buy , get in touch with him
(contact numbers & email on his web site, email better, he's always under a car lol )

Rick81, I am running stock Exedy clutch (but new) with 320bhp/320 lb ft on my Impreza !
Not sure if Forester has same clutch tho.
Theory is standard clutch will cushion punishment to drivetrain lol
