Default EcuTek - second hand?

I have a MY00 UK classic.
As far as I can tell, an EcuTek ECU isn't actually an ECU at all but a software upgrade to the standard item? and the cost is for a licence to access the software upgrade? Does this mean its possible to buy a second-hand ECU that someone has already forked out on and had tuned via ECUTek and then fit it to my car and have a custom remap for just the price of the mappers time, rather than the licence as well?

You will first need to find out your ecu code which is printed on the front of your ecu case then put a add up in the wanted section and then hope !!

AE's 800, 801 & 802 (the ECU's that were fitted to MY99/00) are interchangeable.

Will the ECU be locked by the original mapper though? resulting in needing to buy anther licence anway. So no actual cost saving (increased cost in fact as now you need to fork out for the licence AND the second hand ecu)

Wait for ESL to be released (if it isn't already). Similar price to ecutek but about a million times better.
