Mapped today!
Got my Classic fitted with a VF34, fuel pump, K&N filter, sports cat exhaust, new plugs, oil, filter and a Simtek ECU at Rowleys in Devon today.
Couldn't fit the big TMIC yet tho cos I need a New Age recirc valve and couldn't get one in time, plus I'm wanting to make a bigger scoop to look like the std one. Just gotta find the old spoons, dollies and a sheet of ally and I'm away (I'll do a post of the progress when I do!)
Steve Simpson did the mapping and I've ended up 302bhp at about 6200rpm. Well chuffed with this, wasn't looking for Earth twisting power, just a bit more poke that's not gonna start breaking bits on the car.
Pic of the car before some **** dented the rear door and it got painted the wrong colour, anyone recommend a good paint guy near Exeter?

Will post dyno readout when I get it next week (printer out of ink )

The car is a UK MY99 with 37000 genuine miles, 1 previous owner with FULL HISTORY. It has been serviced every 6 months regardless, sometimes with only 50 miles covered!!!
I am trying to keep the mods sympathetic to the car's age and rust free condition and it still feels like new to drive apart from an annoying rattle from behind the passenger airbag somewhere.
Never having had a mapped Impreza before would you expect the car to drive as well as an unmodded car when cold or off boost? Mine was a little juddery before when cold which I put down to needing new plugs but it's still the same having started it this morning after a fairly cold 4degree night.
Probably all noob questions/comments but I've been out of the modified cars scene since I had this 10 years ago.

VF34 was a pretty pointless upgrade for 20bhp over the quicker spooling TD04 ? Not to mention the ballache of Simtek rather than a Ecutek given the year. Not trying to be a **** but a sports cat, panel filter, pump and remap on your existing turbo and I/C would have been a tidy quick car with better low down poke and reliability.

Calm down flower... no need to get defensive
Why did you go SimTek? Why did you go VF34?
2 perfectly good questions as if you weren't after 'every last drop of power' you've just wasted the best part of a grand for a minimal power increase with less low down grunt as if you'd have kept the TD04 it would've spooled up a hell of a lot quicker !
Just trying to figure out why you've followed that particular route ! Not out to shoot you down

Won't the VF34 be quicker spooling with it's ball bearing design? Mine used to be on full power quicker than the other Scoobs I've had.
Like I said COSbros mine made 297bhp WITHOUT A MAP, tmic, standard cat etc. Same as yours I think. Something isn't right, maybe hoses? ****ed Cat?
Just trying to help you out here

Your hesitation on cold mornings if on partial throttle will be a gummed up boost control solenoid. I was gonna say connect the plugs under steering coloum to put car in test mode (makes the boost solenoid continually open/close) spray it through with carb cleaner, and then a wee wee squirt of wd40
But having simtek it renders the plugs under the steering column redundant afaik now

That wasn't how I read it mate 'before simtek' and I wasn't replying to your post I was elaborating on the simtek ballache as if serviced as maticulously as claimed, it's unlikely to be the plugs. Simtek couldn't be more mis sold in this case for the customers requirements IMHO.

Cosbros , as long as YOU are happy, that's the main thing Bugger everyone else !!
Steve is a very respected mapper, I'm sure he will improve on 302 once bigger TMIC is fitted .True,it would have been cheaper to just get your car Ecutek mapped without VF34 & Simtek, especially if you bought an already licensed Ecutek ECU.But I believe with Simtek you have the ability for Launch Control, Anti-Lag & maybe flat foot shifting (not sure about last one).I think to get the most out of yr VF34 you should prob change injectors to 550s.
An important point is should you change yr mind about the Simtek you can sell it for a good price secondhand. If you had gone Ecutek on yr ECU you would be lucky to get £100 for it after forking out £500 plus!
Anyway welcome aboard,I think some of the old timers are being a bit hard on you , just learn to develop a thick skin! Anyway I am v jealous as your car is mint!
Here's mine on a good day :

It was a one owner 40k example when I bought it 5 years ago, still only done 58k but quite a few mods Beware modding is addictive but most of all have fun!
Cheers,John

VF34 is a great turbo for sure but not for your car. You want the smallest turbo suited to your spec to ensure you get the most out of it. At the moment you have Usain Bolt with a massive dead leg
This is a Hybrid TD04 print out, but you get the idea Mean't as a post to help not to hate. But I couldn't live with my peak being at 6200 especially at a relatively low 302. Chose to ignore or plough on as you wish

My point is this thread is getting rather pointed towards the OP, who originally came onto here to post results as he was very happy with his car. Since then he has left his own thread as he was made to feel there was something wrong with his pride and joy. So my comment was a positive note for the OP.
I understand people's comments and concerns but at the end of the day it's his car & decision.

Correct and who are we to dictate what the OP spends his money on?

Each to their own but if I posted on a public forum what I'd done to my car, as a veteran or noob, I would expect and indeed want to know if there was a better way of doing things or if I was getting the most out of my spec sheet VF34 should be an upgrade, not a downgrade Happy motoring...
