Possible 6 speed issue?

Possible 6 speed issue?
i have a hawk sti , and when car is cold its almost impossible to select 2nd gear unless your under 20 mph, this goes for both upshifts and downshifts.
Gear will select if double declutch and match revs, once gearbox up to temp there is no issue at all , selects fine.
Seems to be only 2nd gear while cold, is this a normal scooby trait?
oops posted in wrong section, but any answers welcome

Sounds like my 1st gear selection until the car is warm. I'm NO expert but take it to a specialist and get an opinion/s. go to several and gauge the verdicts. Could be a simple selector rod issue.
Edit - A Focus RS owner took my car out today and was blown away by the simplicity of the power control by OUR gear-boxes. Strong units, chase your issue up..

Sounds like one of two things -
1 - Incorrect oil (however would also cause a crunching selecting reverse)
2 - 2nd gear synchro has gone (which is more likely due to the double-clutching solves the issue)
Not sure if its a normal hawkeye trait though

Not sure if this helps but I discovered that when I had my classic and after 70k miles or so it would only go into 5th cleanly with Subaru standard gearbox oil. If I had it serviced anywhere else and other oil was used it would be almost impossible to get into 5th without it crunching.
I had it serviced not long before selling it at 150k and they changed the gearbox oil and it was diabolical - I ended up having to change it back again for the sale and sold it crunch free.
What I'm suggesting is that changing the oil is a relatively cheap option before the expensive route.

thanks for all the tips guys, after changing oil i think ive narrowed it down to a worn 2nd synchro, duncan says his gearbox on race car was simliar and is still going strong dispite some 1500 race miles.
I guess at the end of the day a rebuild will be in order but not as urgently as i orginally thought

I have the same issue on my 6 speed despite changing oil. Has been crunching for a couple of years when doing shifting down into 5th and 4th. I just learned to live with it and double de clutch rather than rebuilding the box.
