hello mate the tire profile when i changed mine to 18 inch on my newage impreza was 225/40/18,the specialist recomended 225/40/18 and my car handles really well on that profile on the toyo rubber but i did also get a four wheel lazor alignment which i know for sure definately sorted out the handling that is what i would recomend you to get done and also to have a good look around underneath at the suspension components to see if any damage or wear on droplinks bushes etc.i would recomend you do that before purchasing any new suspension components as you could fit them and still have the same problem or make matters worst.

Sounds like it could be traction oversteer.

Are you running uprated arb's?
