Probably because the suspension in that thing alone is worth more than your whole car?

Well have you tried using the handbrake, as that's how he's starting most of those - certainly works on my Foz, after that its having enough torque versus grip aided by a rear biased DCCD diff to keep it there!

You'll notice on some corners he has the trad Scoob understeer!

Have you ever tried LOL....? Your car can probably do something similar, but perhaps at a slower speed. The car in in question looks pretty well prepped, he achieving those slides at a fairly high speed, but it looks set up pretty well. I believe he's on tarmac rally tyres, what appears to be a very sorted suspension, making good torque with ALS.

As well as someone mentioned earlier he probably has an active center diff mapped with a more aggressive rear bias.

And he looks to be a pretty decent driver to boot....

But anyway, yeah completely possible with a stock car, here take a look at this, these cars are completely un-modified

YouTube - Ken Block and Travis Patrana star in old school Subaru ad

Silly commercial LOL.....

Didn't recognize it as a early group A car at first but your right, it is. Yeah these had a early variation of the active differentials, which doesn't hurt things either.

But definitely still possible to slide around a good bit in your WRX if you like.

Hmm I doubt it, all the scoobs with active centre diff (bar the P2) have the 'active' part related to the amount of limited slip, they are not torque vectoring (like say the EVO rear diff) so can't have 'a more aggresive rear bias'!

Most Grp A cars of that era had some sort of active diff.

Yes, that car probably has two active diffs (front and center).
I'm with you 172sport, this is no tuned up road car, it's an ex-Prodrive works GrpA rallycar.

The two examples are not quite the same as the original post, in that they are using the speed to slide the car rather than the drive in the first video, I think you would need to have alot of torque and alot of driving ability to do it. I would be interested to see if anyone can do it..? I find that the turbo lag (amongst many other driver related...) is the problem on a slow corner like this and I dont have the luxury of anti lag...

Thr driver in the original video is Fabien Vericel, he's been in rally for a fair while, so I'd say he knows how to drive...

...has to be one of the best sounding videos on You Tube. I keep meaning to edit a segment of it to use as a ringtone on my phone! (Yes, I realise that makes me extremely sad!)

The car in the you tube vid is the same Gp A 555 car that David Mann used to win the ANCRO national rally championship in the Uk a few years back, its a proper Twin port 555 car and was about the last evolution of the Gp A imprezas.

Thats why it can do that and it sounds so superb!!!!!!

I'd love to watch the video of a similar manoeuver being attempted...

...but your link doesn't work!

In the mean time, heres a slightly higher quality version of the original Fabien Vericel video. Still has the same sh*t intro music, but the picture and audio is a wee bit better. Enjoy!

Lovely vids, and indeed the rally car and skills of the driver are worth admiring.

Cmaster - Seems like you had a fun day mate, some good driving indeed.

Shame you quoted what I wrote without being bothered to read it though isn't it, they do NOT have active torque vestoring, but ACTIVE LSD function!

If its any help, when I first got my scooby, I was a little dissapointed at the understeer.

My previous car was an MR2 turbo, and that also under steered slightly, but learnt to drive that.

Then a local rally driver, who rallies his scooby, took me for a lesson in mine. all I can say is that why while all the tech above can help, my car never understeered with him driving, and he left the handbrake where it was too.

As someone posted above, get some tuition, preferably from a genuinely quick scooby driver.

If all else fails, find a wet empty car park, get a few cones, and drive it like a MK2 escort, not a 4wd car.

Quick Reply: Why won't my car do this?
