Safest? Hmmmmm, I don't think that there's a "safe" way to do a full bore start with AWD....

For the quickest time (from my experience), handbrake on, hold the revs at 4500-5000rpm. Release clutch pedal to biting point. Then dump the clutch, release the handbrake and depress accelerator fully, all in one fluid movement. All four wheels should light up and you get around 1-2 secs in first gear before shifting hard to second at around 5500rpm.

A kinder way is to launch gently from 4000rpm and slip the clutch slightly until engine revs match the wheel speed. Then floor it!!! Yay!!

Doing this in a car equipped with dccd will set the diff to free mode.....so most of the power will go to rear wheels ......

Rev limiter then side step the clutch, you need not have any kind of mechanical sympathy though.

set up the launch control.
turn on the anti-lag.
leave up the clutch.
floor it.
change gear when the change light goes red.
and stay going till you hear something go bang!

on my car, sit in 1st with hand brake on, get the clutch to the bite point and dump hand brake and clutch.

not advisable unless you have a nice strong gearbox like my PPG straight cut box though

Everyone is talking about shafts and boxes, must have done dozens of 5,000rpm and side step the clutch in my old Ford 4x4 - nothing ever broke, so maybe Fords are better built than everyone thinks!

Simon

the reason the fords didnt break is that they dont have the power/torque

As its the shock of dumping the clutch or the torque applied that breaks things , power of course is of no relevance......0-30 time at trax was 2.2s

Dream on, 6.6s, not bad for a 2.8V6 back in 1995....even if it was rather heavily tweaked.
