i`m after buying a dump valve but i`m unsure which is a decent one to get. I`m after something that gives a nice ptish. Has anyone got any advise and a few prices and how easy are they to fit??

I'm interested in buying a dump valve too, but I was wondering if there are any out there that are quiet when driving at low revs and only make a noise when you are heavily accelerating.

i've got a forge VTA DV on the blackbeast. at low revs it's fairly quiet, only really goes pssssshhht over 3000 rpm.

One thing to note though is that I do have induction kit and full decay, with rather large tailpipe, so that is noisy, so my definition of 'fairly quiet' might not be the same as yours!

Definitely go for the Forge VTA BOV. As Markus says, it's loud over 3000RPM, plus you get the chatter/flutter on low boost. Perfect combination - plus it's great value for money.

Does anyone know how much they are ?? and are they easy to fit i`e could i do it i`m reasonably mechanical minded. I`m from sheffield is there any dealers up here that could sort me out

I think mine was £120 from ScoobySport.

Got a garage to fit mine for £20, but I was told it's relatively easy to fit yourself. If you don't buy the fitting kit, you'll need some hosing as well, cos I don't think the hosing from the factory dump valve is long enough. I would suggest you have a look under the bonnet, but the VTA DV is fitted differently to the re-circ one. Good luck.

nope, but I'm told the forge recirc dump valve is louder than the standard recir dv.

Iam only just started to get into cars so this might sound stupid, but wat is a dump valve???

Plus wat sort of exaust would suggest? I want it 2 be loud but not 2 loud??

A dump valve is what releases the presure from your turbo either when you release the throttle hard under higher boost or when you dump the clutch when changing gear. If its an atmospheric one it makes that whoosh sound which is always nice.

The best back box for me is the scooby sport one cos it sounds realy meaty.

Dump Valves stop the compressed air stalling the blades of the turbo when you come off boost, which is called turbo lag. Instead, the air is then either re-circulated, or vented, to keep the turbo spinning. This means that you can change gears and still have immediate boost. I have noticed a difference, and I'm very happy with it.

Wannabe - I think the best combination is a HKS back box, and centre section, with a ScoobySport downpipe.

what is the difference between a vent to air and a re-circ.
Also what affect does it have on your engine warranty???

Also i have the forge my99 recirc, anyone know if it will go on my late my97?? Just arrived from scooberators this morning...

Atmos - vents the air from the turbo to the atmosphere (which is why it makes the Phssssst noise).

Re-circ - directs the air back into the turbo(???).

Dunno what it'll do to your warranty - ask your dealer. They are usually critical of every modification.

I have a great dump valve attached to my ****, makes all sorts of sounds at any times - when i'm idle, or at full revs
Not a recirc though , definately vent to air!!!

Suffers with the odd blockage now and then

I got the forge. Not that loud with the default red spring. Put the blue one in and its loud above 3k rpm at high boost - enough to turn heads on the streets! Awesome - for me, more grin factor than the ss backbox!

I doubt the DV for the MY99 will fit the MY97, otherwise companies wouldn't sell different models. I could be wrong though - it's happened before Check out the Forge website Forge to make sure.

akshay - I don't even know which spring is in mine. I presume it's the red spring. When it was first fitted it wasn't too loud, but now it's had time to loosen up, it's perfect. I think the blue spring 'phsssst's at lower boost too.

Mate, you probably had the red spring - you can tell from the colour of the grease (around the holes of the valve) and the fact the red one gives you the WRC chatter.

The blue spring makes a really loud whoosh and can scare people! The important thing is I can get a loud whoosh without having to really nail the car. If you want this spring, just ask forge to send you one, they should do free of charge.

Yes, the MY99 and MY97 dump valves are different. With the MY97 you've gotta get an extra hose. With the MY99 is pretty much plug and play!

Cool, thanks for that. It must be a red spring then, cos I get the chatter. How easy is it to change the spring, could you tell me how to install it? I think I'll get in touch with Forge now, just to see the difference.

Changing the spring is easy - remove the DV from the car and undo the six bolts that hold the two halves together - "match-mark" the two halves with a felt tip pen, so they go back right.

Becareful when you remove the top, a there is obviously a spring inside and it will act like a jack-in-the-box if you just take it appart.

Watch how the insides come appart, as you need to get them back right - make sure you get the piston back round the right way.

Clean all the internals, replace your spring and change/re-grease the o-rings and re-assemble in reverse order. ( Forge supplied me with a service kit - orings + grease etc with my blue spring)

Re-fit to the car - and hey-presto - one whooshing DV!

Easy really - anyone with a few tools can do it.

P.S. - meant to say that my car is an MY00 (DV bolts to the front of the intercooler), i'm assuming that yours is similar?

It's really quite easy, as Coggie explains above.

All you need to get hold of is an Alan key to undo the bolts. The entire process should take you less than 10min. Also, the whoosh gets louder after a few days of driving and then stays at that volume.

Best dump valve is the 'Blitz Super Sound Blow off valve'. Costs around 250 quid but worth every penny. Makes one hell of a whooshhh! Forget the cheap imitations!

Thanks for all the replies. I'll give it a try when the spring arrives in the post. So, does Forge send everyone who requests a spring, fitting instructions as well? Also, any idea what size alan key I'll need? Down to B&Q methinks!
